somethign along the lines of that? im not sure
please help
oh and for audio card, i have a soundblaster audigy mp3. and i have monitors
Yikes for some one just starting out thats a nice product. You could used anything as long as its Midi compatible (a beaten up casio 30), which simply means can be connected to your soundcard via Midi, But yeah if you have done some research on that Korg then go for it if you have the money, using hardware with cubase is pretty simple to.
Take care, keep us posted.
I've been producing for years and never needed hardware yet.
how do you make melodies then? is there some program that lets you use computer keyboard as a musical keyboard?

Mate, just remember that the keys on the micro korg are also micro. It makes some nice sounds but if you want something to play melodies on, then maybe something with full size keys would be better.
As for making melodies, you don't need a keyboard, you can just input the notes into a sequencer. Having a midi controller helps though but you'll end up quantizing with the mouse anyway.

^ Listen to him, he's signed, and makes extrememly good music
I do have a midi keyboard myself, but i honestly don't use it much, i find drawing notes in to be a tad easier. I have a bit of musical training, but I just prefer the mouse for some reason.
i dont understand how you draw music, how do you do it in real time to hear what you are making? like at a keyboard
You draw it in the sequencer and play it back. Its much more accurate timewise than playing it by hand. I usually play melodies by hand on my yamaha midi keyboard and then draw them into the sequencer.
Would atleast invest in a midi keyboard, drawing notes in with a mouse is crazy, besides your learning to play a musical instrument at the same time, as appose of slamming notes into anywere and hoping some nice melody comes out.
Try second hand stores, always bargains for 50 kicking around.
