Miami WMC question

With WMC dates just announced I want to book our hotel asap. I checked around online. Seems like there are lots of places in the $150/night range for 4 people in good locations. I realize that we will not be sleeping whatsoever, but we need a place that has enough size for 4 of us to get ready, etc.

Do you think its worth paying a little extra to stay at the Raleigh (for the pool, etc). I found it for like $200/night. Is it too far north? I heard its pretty nice - will it be too upscale & not have other WMCers there? Or should we just find some small shitty place?

Thanks

Hey...

This early you may very well be able to find hotels online in prime location (around 5th-20th Ave or so) for even cheaper than 150 a night.
I have found hotels online for as cheap as 50-70 a night.. Its up to you how much you want to spend and how many people you have stayin with you; but I wouldn't blow the extra $$ on a nice room when you won't even be in it... I like you will be in the same situation LOL... so I understand; and Im sure I wont be getting anything fancy since the room will be used just as a place to keep my stuff,shower/change to go out and maybe to get a couple minutes of sleep during the week im there LOL. So yea I def wouldnt waste your money; I can think of many other things you can save it for during your week there! heh

Love, Rach

if you say there are 2 people staying in the room and you want 2 double beds, it will be cheaper than booking the same amount of beds for 4 people ...usually....
just a tip!!!

the whole point of the WMC is to NOT spend time in the hotel room. Personally, I have never cared how good the place was that I Stayed in. Last year I stayed at the Riande for $89/night. It had 2 queen beds, a sofa bed, and a kitchen. We had 3 people staying in there and it was large enough that we had about 25 people in there for a party. My opinion of a hotel is this "what do you actually see when your eyes are closed???" All I need is a bed and a decent bathroom, other than that I am out on the beach/ocean drive/drunk/clubbing and the hotel is maybe 15-20% of the time...Only spend a lot on a hotel if you plan on spending a lot of time there

YO KID!

my suggestion is to go to www.hotels.com and look up Flight and Hotel together...

with 4 people flying in on the 5th and leaving on the 10th it was $399 per person w/airfare on ATA out of Midway and hotel @ Suite of Dorchester which were fine last year and we had 8 people stay in one Suite!

see you all there.

Can someone point me to a website that has inclusive information on this event (i.e. dates, gigs, etc)? Thanks!

-Keith

PS. I've found http://www.wmcon.com/ but I was wondering if there is a Tips & Tricks website, kind of like www.ibiza-spotlight.com for Ibiza.

Damn Ian, your new avy throws me off everytime!

My problem is that I'm going solo, so I have to shell out all the cash, solo. Damn the fact that there are no people I know that listen to trance and edm!

Yeah i might be going solo for this as well, gotta find someone willing to drive all the way down to FLA and get a hotel with me. My roomate said he would go if his spring break is the same as ours. (we go to different colleges)

for the cost of driving down you can fly for less. Flights are going for under $200 right now

hmm i dunno.. fill up my tank is about 15 bucks.. i get an avergae of 300 miles per gallon. im not sure what the distance is down to Florida from VA ( 1000 miles? i dunno)

if i can spend under 150 for gas going down, comng up, and all week i should be fine.. but i havent dichotomized between flying or driving just yet.

Heres another thing tho too..if i do drive then I'll have my own transportation down in Miami. I wont be spending money on taxicabs and buses to get to the conference. At least i dont think so. I've never been to WMC so i dont know how all that works.

I'm sure Miami is trying to get as much money from this event as the promoters and DJs ? perhaps

Well I still need to check all my resources out first before i make a commitment to it.

the "actual" conference you will never go to unless you are a dj/vendor/producer/buying the ticket for $225. so 99.99% of your time will be spent between 2nd street and 22nd street and collins and ocean at the various parties so transportation is pointless other than to get to and from space. Everything else is situated right in south beach. Plus, having a car you now have to pay to park it either at a meter (if you can find one) or at valet which is about 15-25 a day depending on the hotel

Hmm

Well see heres the critical information i need. Yes you're right I'm mainly concerned about the parties rather than the conference.

At the rate im going right now tho..i dont know if i can book a hotel just yet coz i need to figure out expenses and see if anyone else can go and share a room.

That being said, i figured it would most likely be certain that all hotels in the vicinity would be accomodated and that I would have to settle for a hostel somewhere outside of Miami and drive in to all the parties.

hahaha thats me...the perpetual pessimistic !

def. not...there are plenty of hotels available, just make sure you get one around the area I discussed before...That way you can just wake up and hit the beach/parties and/or hit on the lovely beach bunnies on their way to said beach

ok sounds good..

Like i said I've never been to WMC so i really need to do my homework on this and plan for it. I'm going to check around for hotel prices and flights too.

Tim_G is flying down and staying down in some hotel.. perhaps i could stay in with him, maybe get a few more people to cut costs.

Cool

thanks for the info Ian sir, good day to you

Cool, thanks guys.

Does anyone know if the last parties will be on the night of the 9th or the 10th? (e.g., should we fly back on Wednesday the 10th or Thursday the 11th - wouldnt want to miss one last party
