Liverpool FC Thread

Getting fed up in posting in the Newcastle United thread, so as a lot of us are Liverpool fans, lets start our own! How many Liverpool fans we got in the TA forums? Yeovil Town in the Fa Cup third round i see.. should be a toughie!

Posted by Xavier on Dec-08-2003 03:17:

Southampton at home this weekend, should be another tough struggle, with all the injuries.

Posted by PacMan on Dec-08-2003 15:36:

southampton i dont see as a problem as we managed too survive newcastle.

Yeovil i do see as a problem as they where non league last year, and those teams injure players for fun.

hope they play with the acadamy team or something.

Liverpool's FA Cup 3rd round tie at Yeovil Town has been put back 24 hours and will now take place on Sunday January 4 2004.

The game at Huish Park, which will be broadcast live on the BBC, will kick off at 1pm

U need to fuck off Houllier. He keeps wasting ur money on mediocre players (ie £10 for diouf) who dont even improve the squad that much, and invests money in shite french youngsters like Cheyrou (sp?) who arent guna turn out to be anything good

Dont forget £11M on Heskey!!! oops i should be defending the team! Ok, i think he could have spent his money better, but up til last season we had been improving under him. 4th, 3rd then 2nd i believe it was. I think Houlliers a great manager, but if he doesnt get us in the champions league this year, then its time for him to go.. whats more, it would be devistating to see Owen leave if we dont qualify for champions league, and if this happened, the finger would be pointed at Houllier and it would be au revoir me thinks..

Posted by PacMan on Dec-09-2003 02:50:

ok i dont like too discuss houllier but, look at the talents he got us last year? and for bargain price!

and the attacking fotball we are now play is just missing in my view 3 pieces. one has returned now from injury. the always dependable Hamann wich was the missing link when we had too defend earlier in the season.

The second piece is another defender, biscan is doing ok but i dont trust him. Traore i dont know why is still wearing his shirt. and henchoz has been having been makin lots of mistakes this year.

the third piece is a REAL goalscorer, that score regularly. kewell is doing good and all but another quality striker is needed(with baros being injured and all).

now the second and third piece is most likley too be obtained in januray with a new defender and in the summer with cisse.

What scares me tho is boumsong wich a defender that has been linked with liverpool since last year now, is unsure if he wants too go too liverpool since he isnt sure houlliers job is safe. and the same goes for cisse.

Now if youve seen what Steven Gerrard has said about his manager when houllier has come under fire, you will fear the firing of Houllier as he has undying support from his players. Also look at the respect he gets from other managers. Like Ferguson and Wenger.

my position in this is he should be keept in the club, but given another job. as a assistant or something.

One of his problems tho is he cant keep a starting 11. theres too much rotating for my liking(when the players are injury free).

and if someone is gonna take Houlliers job my suggestion is

Hector Cuper or the former Real Madrid boss.

id like too know your suggestions

Also on the diouf comment, houllier did pay too much for him but he does improve the squad. who is gonna play on the right if not diouf?

Also when im thinking about the right side of midfield, there came the thought of WHY THE HELL DID HE PLAY KEWELL ON THE RIGHT IN THE BEGINNING...

Hey I am a Liverpool FC fan from Sydney, Australia.

I think that Liverpool have underperformed this year, but they are still going OK at 5th in the premiership.

Buy of the year: Harry Kewell. He is my favourite football player by far, largely due to the fact that he is Australian!! He has had some 'moments' this season, but I don't think he has reached his full potential yet.

Go team.

Liverpool FC = LiverKewell

Posted by Xavier on Dec-09-2003 15:16:

Yeah I like how we got Kewell for a bargain low price and how he refused the scum's last minute huge offers to get him.

On another note, there is a petition going around to knight King Kenny Dalglish, and I think its about time one of our legends got knighted, it seems that you have to have the scum on your C.V. to do so.

I think ure right when u say Liverpool need another defender, but i dont think its gonna be Boumsong cos i think hes got his heart set on rangers. Henchoz's contract is gonna be up at the end of this season as well, and would be worrying if we lost him in the summer for nothing cos hes played so well over the past few seasons with Hyppia. Dont forget well have Babbel again next season, although i think it would be better if we got rid of him as ive barely see him play a game with his illness and then loan. There must be other quality central defenders out there.. id go for someone with more experience than youth, cos i think the team needs another mcallister, what with all these youngsters!

I agree with the fact we need another goalscorer! I think weve only seen goals from Owen and Kewell this season. Murphys played well since hes been back. Gerrard in my opinion is having a poor season, 1 goal in how many matches, although he has been filling in for Hamann! Who can we bring in as a goalscorer?? Especially if Owen is sold at the end of the season.. cos they wont let him go for nothing if he doesnt sign a new contract.

Dont really know anything about Hector Cuper, but whats for sure is that if Houllier goes this year, were gonna need a big manager to take the team forward again.. its too early in the season to say he should go though at the moment.

Posted by PacMan on Dec-10-2003 19:45:

well cuper was the manager the got valencia two the champions league final two years in a row.

he was inters manager right up til the milan derby where he lost and got fired.

he is also the manager that won against arsenal in highbury earlier in the season, the new one was the one that was made too cry.

all in all he is a experianced manager.

as for forwards, drogba cisse ...

and for the mcallister thing we got one already or two, hamann and hyppia...

Cannot wait till January when half the 1st team are back from injury, once this happens fourth spot in the league is a forgone conclusion

Bugger, we had to go and lose to southampton didnt we! anyone see the highlights. was it like the newcastle game, or did we actually get some possession?!!

Posted by tall paul 2 on Dec-14-2003 11:37:

uh oh, Gerrard on the move??

Look what i just read, it dont look good for us at the moment...

http://www.skysports.com/skysports/...1115284,00.html

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has hinted he could leave The Reds should the club fail to reach the UEFA Champions League and maintain their Premiership challenge.
The England international, who only committed his future to the Anfield side until 2007 in November, has stated nothing is ever certain in football.

Liverpool could have moved fourth with a win over Southampton on Saturday, however a 2-1 defeat, their sixth loss of the campaign, left them way down in ninth.

With Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal streaking away at the top of the table, only one remaining space is available to club's to steal a lucrative Champions League place.

"I have just signed a long-term contract and I signed it because I believe Liverpool will be back in the Champions League and challenging for the title," said Gerrard to the Sunday Mirror.

"But I also know that things in football don't always go the way you think they will.

"If we don't qualify for the Champions League over the next couple of seasons then I would have to think very seriously about things.

"I owe it to myself to take another look at my future."

Posted by PacMan on Dec-14-2003 15:19:

if we fail too get into championsleague within the next few years we will loose him, and owen.

i hope too god it wont happend.

Howay Yeovil!

Do you think your lot will invest in new talent this month? It wouldn't surprise me if Newcastle were silent in the transfer market, again

yeah a another 17 year old "new zidane" who will get loaned to a nationwide club or back to the French league in a matter of 3 weeks after his signed. :P

Cisse rumoured to be coming in a time when our injured players are now almost fit.

We know the feeling mate. If we do sign someone it'll probably be another 'up and coming' 16 year old from Division One with 'lots of potential'. I hear Ipswich have a very promising foetus who has caught the attention of our scouts.

I can only assume Newcastle employ a gorgeous female physio because the amount of times some of our players keep going back for treatment is astonishing.

You still suck (spend a ton on players and do nothing)

enjoy it!

we shall be holding the trophy (CHAMPIONS OF THE ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE AGAIN!) at Old Trafford in May..give it up wankers!

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-03-2004 01:04:

and owen does not dive?

give it up...seems all top flight strikers dive like fucking hell these days..sad I know...used to be...they rarely dived...just played till the whistle...they are all pretty boys now...henry, shearer, ruud and others.

Posted by evil_bastard on Jan-03-2004 01:37:

Shearer does seem to hold a lot of power with referees, many also accuse him of being physical, but I can't remember the last time he dived for a pen.

I wouldn't say Henry's as bad as Owen or Ruud either, Arsenal have Pires for that role!

Sinama Pongolle is fast gaining himself a reputation as well. I know it's prevalent in today's game but some players are a lot more sly than others.

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-03-2004 02:11:

It happens in all sports now, I mean in Ice Hockey, you seem players diving like heck to gain penalties and what happens in hockey like footy....the refs start to ignore you because they know you dive to get penalties. It's a mess about the game because you have too many pretty boys trying to make the plays look neat. I thought Arsenal showed last year what happens when you try to play pretty football, you don't win. Who cares how it looks when you score because the goals count no matter the ugly nature. We got Ronaldo for that role for diving and crying. I mean if you are hurt then stay down but if you are not, get back up and swallow your pride. Refs don't give those players anymore benefits of the doubt. When I played sports, I played for the whistle, no whistle then you keep playing. It's in all sports now, too many ppl trying to look pretty when playing, sports is gritty and competitive. I mean when I play footie (I played winger and made allstar) and I now play either central midfield or striker but if I made a play that looked good, I'd worry about talking about it after the game. Pretty plays normally end up doing nothing, you need to work to get goals and if they look great....props to you but if they don't...they all count.

Posted by PacMan on Jan-03-2004 04:17:

pongolle aint that bad, he will not fall over when he gains some more strength, most pens hes got are fair ones.

and for owen diving that i have never seen.
tho we have a little african player of the year that tried and tries again.
oh and calling shearer a diver?? WTF!

and xavier, letallec and pongolle have been a been nothing more than a breath of fresh air for the team. so id like too see more talents like that signed. whould you have let em slip away and let arsenal or man utd get ahold of em? as they where the other ones hunting em.

doubt there will be any more signings. if they havent tossed some more money into the transfer money, i seriously doubt it will happend.
i say we trade heskey cheyruo and diao(god i hate that guy) for cisse.

Also i hear man utd are trying too sign cisse. if so this his time too see if he really dreams of playing for the reds.

torontotrance you forget these guys are entertainers, pretty plays entertain more. tho i agree with you that goals count nomatter what. too win and "win" the crowd you kinda need too find something in middle of pretty plays and sheer effectiveness.

There was alot of angry people when houllier played his defencive style cuz it wasnt entertaining enough, but it worked too some degree.

but anyways im tired ill go sleep. if i misunderstood any of you tell me so.
