Love Poundin' Sensation Edm

Hey guys!

So I haven't posted my own random thread in a while and I'm bored so what the hay. I was thinking ...and and Ive gotten into this conversation many a time with other people who are into dance music, Trance/House whatever (usually when Im out and a bit tipsy heh) but I don't know about you guys (Im sure pretty much all of you feel the same or else you wouldnt be here) but I LOVE MUSIC.

THIS MUSIC. It's my passion!

I think my life would be soo dull if I didn't have it!!

TA for example is such a huge community.. but in perspective.. its really not at all. MOST people DO NOT listen and swear by dance/electronic music and this scene. 9 out of 10 are like TranceAddict, what?! And you guys know what I mean by LISTEN/SWEAR BY etc. I almost feel sorry for the people that get into crap like 50 cent because they don't have an ear for or a general appreciation and or liking for our music. Honestly,I just roll my eyes!! Furthermore...you know when you meet someone random and you find out they're into the whole scene and its sooo awesome??! Its like an instant connection. Sorry if I am being a tad extreme, but can anyone relate here? I like that it continues to stay relatively underground and deviates from the "mainstream" (for the most part) There's people who go out and party to get wasted/F'd up and dance who have no clue who spinning; but when I go out (sober or not) I know I will have a great time just enjoying the dj,the music, the crowd and the whole vibe.. and leave that party with a great feeling inside!

ps Sorry.... I'm on a serious trance high ATM listening to ESCAPE (PHYNN MIX)!!!!!!! heheh

Party On,
Rach

xoxo

I feel exactly the same way. Here in Tallahassee it's referred to as the "Techno stuff" as many cities in the US. When I meet someone here and they call it "Techno Stuff", I try to educate them by telling them it's Dance Music or Trance. For the most part everyone likes Trance but for some reason they don't like to admit it.

I feel sorry for them because they dont have an appeciation for MUSIC.
Sad thing is I think the majority of people just listen to what the popular media tells them to, they don't listen deeply to the music and really appreciate it. This is why I'm glad trance/EDM is still underground, if it were popular the scene would be mostly people who couldn't even tell you why they listen to it, not the music lovers like us. I appreciate a wide range of musical styles, but trance is my favorite because it is melodic AND you can dance to it, and it can also make you feel emotions (I never had the hair on my arm stand up listening to "In Da Club"). The music can be relaxing yet make you move at the same time. Gotta love it!

Omg Rach, I know what you mean!

The other day, when I was working Light Up Orlando, I was psyched because bad boyz of breaks was going to DJ. All of a sudden some random guy came up to my stand and somehow we got onto the topic of EDM and it was like instant bond.

We started going on and on about DJs we've seen, DJs we want to see, it was amazing.

Anytime I meet someone who listens to EDM or trance, I feel like I just found a friend for life

Some random thought I have developed over many cold nights and a joint.

We (trance/wicked house fans) have something inside of our brains that is more receptive to the quality and sounds of edm. It is something other people can't understand, so trying to convince them that edm is a million times better than most of the other crap out there, it makes no sense to them. They have to open that part of their mind on their own, and "see the light".

I think a lot also has to do with primal tribal instincts, which is why I love to dance forever, as dancing for our ancestors, was a spiritual thing, so it is now for me and the many smiling faces I see at a party who really understand the value of an amazing vibe with amazing music.

i couldnt agree more... the people I've met through TA are some of my best friends now, I have more in common with them than most people I know, and it's always great meeting new people at trance events! Trance is soooo great, because not only can you go out to enjoy a night of great music, but at the same time can have a great time dancing, meeting new friends, drinking, whatever it is you do

Long live tranceaddict, and all the best goes out to my ATL TAs! yall are the best

I definitely go out for the music. I don't tend to go to clubs just for the sake of going. I am a serious dancer, even more so since going to Buzz now and throwing it down to some nasty electro-tech. Atm I am really into Tech-House, Tribal, and electro. This is what gets me groovin.

As for Trance, I am simply tired of it. I was never a big fan of the cheese, and now I can't listen to Epic without wanting to vomit. Its so sterile and boring, and no way does it make me groove. I like the darker progressive trance, and psy-Trance. Hence J00F being my main man.

viva la Proton!

Yes, edm is the greatest music there is. Tons of new stuff is always coming out unlike other types of music where you wait a year for a band to come out with new stuff. I've bought like 80 new records in the past few months even though I just play them for me, I have to get them cause they are the best songs there are. And theres nothing like playing them loud loud loud, or cruising around with some bangin music in the car, its the greatest. Music doesn't mean much to most people, they just listen to it when they're young just because its around but then they get old and just have some easy listening playing quietly in the car, but thats probably because they never really connected with it anyways. I think I'll love good music forever.

OMG RACH, BABY YOU ARE SOOO RIGHHTTT ONNN!!!

I totally agree with you on everything!!! Couldnt've said it better myself.

I love music, and I mean GOOD MUSIK and I cannot imagine my days without it. The only thing I hate it when you meet someone and you really like them and you try to get them to like whatever music you're listening to and they just look at you like "OMG are you gonna get out those glowsticks now???" - I feel sorry for people who don't understand this musik.

If they don't associate drugs or massive raves with it they bash it for its "repetitive" sounds - OH BLOW ME WILL YA??? - You have to have a keen ear and appreciation for sound to understand dance/trance/techno/house/proggy/etc etc... YOU JUST HAVE TO!

You also have to be an open minded person... lets say you hear a track and there's something in it you dont like but it might be something new you haven't heard before so you play again and again and all of a sudden its your fave track!!! Its just how it is.

With this musik you discover new sounds, new nuances of melody...you discover yourself! Atleast I have...

I love trance and all its sisters and brothers and I WONT HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY! AMEN TO THAT...

Love you all,
Katie

OMG, my eyes!!!! the colors!!!!

EDM will always be there for me...I started listening to it in some form or another when I was 5-6 years old in my grandfather's record shop and I will listen to it until 1 of 2 things happen...I Die or I go deaf and even then I can still watch the videos

Posted by Scottaculous on Dec-09-2003 00:40:

EDM changed my life. Literally. One day I was pencil pushing up the corporate ladder. Now I'm doing it in style with double 15" woofers.

In all seriousness though. It really has.

Posted by rounder19 on Dec-09-2003 00:41:

my favorite response is "it all sounds the same" its unbelievable how many times a week i hear that...

Posted by SlackerBoy9 on Dec-09-2003 01:41:

I hear the it's all the same comment alot too when i play it at my work and when i sit and start breaking down the different genre's of EDM i just get the blank stare and then it clicks in my mimd that most peoples exposure is prodigy, chemical brothers, fatboy slim, crystal method and maybe a few poor sould have been subjected to Paul"the trainwreck" Oakenfold.....All well and good at least the sound is out there and as much as i like it staying underground i understand the need for artists to make there money while they can...like say Bt and his new pop gonna work with N'Sync stuff...not my cup of tea but at least he is pushing his music one way or another. The scene needs the exposure and it has become more and more evident as labels such as Hooj have to go under into a kind of regrouping stage although thank god they kept the lost language label going.....I'm not ahuge trance fan but the songs released are of high quality. As for me Dirty prog. house.....ambient D'N'b and nu skool breaks such as nu breed, blim, ils and Hybrid where it's intelligently done and not that sloppy florida breaks that most have been subjected to.And too finish my rant it's the music and the people that craete the night not the chemical garbage one is popping into their system which as we in orlando know can help kill a scene.

"Underground will live forever baby,we're just like roaches! always living, never Die!"

Posted by ex-dj on Dec-09-2003 02:49:

Yeah, when someone says it all sounds the same its almost like they're saying "I don't understand music, I just listen to whatever". If you ask me a whole lot of these no-name alternative bands coming out these days sound "the same", but thats another rant.
As for dissing Paul Oakenfold, if you dont like him thats one thing, but he is solely responsible for getting me into this scene and I think that is worth something.
Essential Mix World Tour OWNS!!!! YEEEEEEAH!
ok, nuff caffeine for me

Posted by Shook1 on Dec-09-2003 02:56:

King

I seriously agree!

Come on.... what other music do u know has producers that come together to make music regardless of record company influence / politics for the good of the scene? Then u got 50 Cent & Ja Rule beefing over some wack sh!t that nobody knows or cares about ! EDM is strictly about the music and not about girls and $$. Its about fun, dancing , and coming together.

Producers in the dance scene will encourage others as well as support their fellow DJs/Producer through their DJ sets, remixes, interviews, etc. and its all love. Thats what makes it sooo much better than the rest. Lets just hope the scene will evolve and be better than ever in the future !!!

Posted by SlackerBoy9 on Dec-09-2003 04:10:

well said and i hope that these djs/producers do keep working together to progress the scene and possibly in the future some more high end u.s. producers/djs will come on strong and make the states a bit more stronger in the edm community. As for my slam on Oakenfold...i used to be a big fan...the global undergrounds he did made me such a fan of his and then after seeing him a few times i just kinda lost respect of his skills ...but having said that...what does make him good to see is his song selection and song selection is key.Right now my fave dj's to see are probably Sander Kleinenberg,Quivver,Hybrid,Nick Warren and Steve Lawler.

Great thread!

You guys pretty much said it all. I walk around campus in my Vandit Hoodie and checking peoples eyes when they read whats on it. A couple times ive seen people do double-takes with their eyes.

You can tell the people who knows what it means and other times people have no clue. Those people who know what it means i want them to come out and say something, but so far no luck

Oh well

Music is life and my life is music
