i never understood how people could ask for a ride on a public forum.

if i lived out of the city and did not have my own car, a forum would be the last place i would ask for a ride. i would ask if any of my personal friends are going to the event. if not then i would cab or take the bus if i wanted to go bad enough.

Well this was back in 2003. Things were done differently back then.

A forum is actually one of the best places to ask for a ride, especially if people are going to the same event together but obviously asking on craiglist or a similar forum would be definitely inappropriate.
Taking a cab if you're out of the city is not a very smart thing to do also.
