Recording With A Laptop
Originally i was going to build a computer and use the M-AUDIO Audiophile 2496 soundcard.
If it is possible I would like to use a laptop to record my mixes and still obtain a good quality recording.
Will i need a separate interface besides just going from the mixer out to the laptop in? I can't imagine the soundcard that will come with the laptop will be that great.
Thanks for the help

You're right, no soundcard built into a laptop is going to be anywhere near professional quality for recording. Your best bet is to find a good quality external USB soundcard. M-Audio make an Audiophile USB box, you might want to investigate this. I haven't used it personally so I can't comment on its quality, but M-Adio stuff is usually pretty good.

My dad has a USB soundcard for recording on his laptop its very nice.
I'll try to find who made it etc.
There is a high quality notebook card called the Indigo IO at http://www.echoaudio.com - does analog stereeo input and output. Plugs into your PCMCIA slot or whatever it is called.
I use Sound Blaster MP3+ from Creative (USB) with my laptop,
and it works very well!

For those of you with USB sound card breakout boxes :
When multitrack mixing and overdubb recording, Do you experience any latency when recording?
