I didn't read the article, but I'm sure it says that record companies pay to have their singles played. That is old news. It goes on in every music genre in the U.S. That's the American way...
Anyways... trance would never be understood by the masses anyway, and it's better off that way...

The radio here sucks anyway. I won't even listen to it anymore. There is this station up here called B94 and they have a tracklist of like 20 songs that they loop the entire day. They wear songs out FAST.

if u guys hear what is on the US radio..you guys will know trance wont come up.....in my opinion its better that way anyway..

I'm an american. but the fact that 90% of american teenagers buy into fucking brittany spears says something. they ae products of a corporate world. I wouldn't want those stupid groupie bratts trying to influence the trance we hear.

keep it underground. it is just a shame that since it is underground, i know there are an endless number of amazing songs that none of us have heard. thats what really upsets me.

I hardly ever listen to it anymore....the amazing thing to me is that when I do turn it on, they are still playing the same things today that they were playing last year!! How can people listen to that crap over and over again?

I'd be more worried about the fact it says

"Each of those 1,000 stations adds roughly three new songs to its playlist each week"

Surely that can't be accurate? If so it means that even if Trance did have an equal chance of getting on the radio, the sheer volume of pop tunes would make sure the odds of one being picked were almost nil.

The article does end on a positive not though. Seems to me like it's saying the record companies now realise they're going to have to do something about this before it gets out of control.

I'm also very glad, Trance isn't that popular with the masses.
Some �re, like Jean and Barthezz Milk Inc etc., but I can't call that trance.

In Holland we have ID&T radio (former Slam FM) they play great songs sometimes.

it always saddens me to see how pathetic the majority of our population is... the other night an 18 year old girl was going on about how great the new nsuck album is... and what was her response when i told her nsuck fucking blows? Items like this always make for an interesting debate. I have had several conversation with friends and acquaintances about the nuances of music in general.

There is always a mob mentality out there which enjoys being told what to do, how to do and how to do it. We are all guilty of following certain things because society tells us to do so. With music, most of us have found the will to our own way.

An interesting mix of nationalities, lifestyles and ways of thinking permeate the world of electronika which is one reason I choose to make my own decision with regards to the music I listen to and the culture in which I spend my weekends.

Country to country, there are vast differences between how people live, party and exist. With regards to electronic music, there is always a common bond, a link, regardless of language and location. This is the main reason why I enjoy talking to people across various boards/countries/worlds. Everyone has a reason for what they do, what they like and how they do it.

I, personally, enjoy the "underground" aspect of our music worlds.
Many of the people I know, especially my "crew" have a wide array of feelings, emotions and ideas which sometimes are not prevelant in those which follow all of societys rules and regulations.

During the week, Im a respectable business professional. By weekend, you can see me wearing jester hats, costumes, and dancing my arse off to the best trance tunes available on Earth.

Agreed...but trance is becoming more and more popular. I worry about the day when (If) it will be played on radio stations as much as pop tunes. I actually prefer it to remain an underground thing.

All of us in the USA, watch out. Trance, progressive, tech house, etc....its all coming out of the underground. Give it time and it will be the new hip hop. JUst look at whats happening with movies and commercials. Swordfish, a new movie, has its entire soundtrack done by oakie and contains the above music. Planet of the Apes main theme is a trance remix by oakie. Commmercials are ripping trance tracks to play because of their "happy mood". Even MTV has falled to the trance monster. For their intros and outros to commercials where they do their little advertising spots ive been hearing big name trance like Heaven Scent, Cafe Del Mar, Cream, Gouryella just to name a few. At the club I spend most of my time at, the saturday resident (top 40) was just replaced by a, yep you guessed it, trance/progressive dj.

Right on the money...I noticed the Swordfish soundtrack was done by Oakie. And I've heard some background tunes for commercials that sounded so good I had to go searching for them on a file sharing program to see what the whole song sounded like.

trance is bigger thna most think, i watched sommit on tv about raves in the US, they r huge. So it it more underground. Somebody should start up a few clubs they would rake it in

Some clubs are taking on the rave mentality in the US. In chicago there is a club called THe Mission that it a Rave Club. All trance progressive, etc music, no dress code. Ive seen angles, candy kids, people in full out holloween costumes...its awsome. Everything about it says rave...except for the bar. ANd that place is raking in the cash.
