I've never seen any of the LOTR series and tbh I probably never will.

Bah, read the books?

I'm a LOTR addict, not seeing the movies simply doesn't make sense to me.

Posted by nekholm on Dec-16-2003 18:32:

My ex-girlfriend sent me an SMS yesterday; "Guess who's going to see the 3rd LOTR tomorrow at the premiere?". I replied with "Guess who doesn't care?".

I haven't watched any of them either. I think I might watch them some day, but I highly doubt they are as good as everyone say.

Nope never read the books. I'm not really into that fantasy stuff.

Holy crap, don't they teach literature in schools anymore? Do schools say that reading the Funny Pages is enough for a book report?

What the hell is wrong schools now a days.

I love to read, it's the only thing that allows me to relax and enjoy fully what I'm doing. We are in a generation of quick impluse and fast reaction, we need CGI to make up wha twe can think in our heads, we need foul language to make thing funny. Sheesh.

For everyone that says they choose not to see the movies, that's cool. But please read the books, it's some of the most amazing images painted in your mind. Tolkien was an average storyteller, but he had enough imagination to fill all our lifetimes.

Get out, enjoy the weather, read a freakin book. Use your mind for something other then TV and the internet.

/steps off soapbox

I choose to read books other than those written by J.R.R Tolkien, and I read a lot of them.

Reminds me of my Star Wars movie night. I had never watched any of them before, so I went and rented all 3 special edition movies, and watched them all in a row starting at around 11pm. Then I played a few hours of Zelda : Ocarina of Time (beat the witch boss thing, desert temple or whatever, I forget). Now it's around 9am, and I put Beverly Hills Ninja into the VCR. It wasn't 2 minutes into the film and I collapsed.

btw this was a few years ago, think I was 15 or something.

same here. i tried to read The Hobbit TWICE when i was 8-10 and absolutely hated it! and, mind you, i was a huge fan of reading and even read up on einstein's theory of relativity. so there's something with me and tolkien's books that just doesn't work...

The theaters that are doing the LOTR trilogy showings today are actually showing the extended versions of the fellowship and two tower...so that's like an extra 80 minutes for each movie.
Fellowship - 3 hours
Fellowship extras - 80 min
Two Towers - 3 hours
Two tower extra - 80 min
ROTK - 3 hours

=Roughly 12 hours

I'm not usually a huge fan of that kind of thing either, but for some reason I just really enjoy Tolkiien's work. The Silmarillion has to be one of the best works of Fiction ever (Shame it will probably never be made into a movie, it's far to complex/all over the place for it to be summarized into a coherant plot ).

Give it a try, who knows, you may like it.
