Echo on Audio playback

Recently I have had an annoying echo (reverb?) on all media playback, this includes legit dvd's, mpeg's, avi's, gameplay and mp3 (allough not noticable unless someone is talking)

Any help on how I can resolve this would be very welcome, as its very annoying.

I wish i could give more info, but im not sure what I have done that could have caused it. The only things I can remember doing before the incident occured were installing DivX codec (and i'm almost certain playback was fine after doing so) and installing a game that uses EAX sound effects (which i think was the first time i noticed the echo)

Any ideas? I had no luck on google either

Thanks,

Rob

could well be something soundcards do to create "fake" surrourd sound, they add a sligh echo to the sound and aperently it makes it sound like its coming from more than 2 speakers, when its just 2.

what sound card you got? fire up the soundards controll pannel software and try seeing if there are any options to turn it on and off.

yeah been looking through the settings, not that there is a great deal to set, but with no luck.

It's driving me insane, i'll keep plugging away.

Your suggestion may well be right, only i dont have a dedicated sound card (with this being a laptop I'm assuming it's an onboard soundcard) hence i doubt i have the luxury of those sort of features

check inside the game for any possible settings

also try this

controll pannel - sounds and audio devices - advanced button in the speakers and heapphones area, and set to 2 desktop speakers or headphones

no luck i'm afraid with either.

The only answer google has hinted at is a "karaoke" effect, where if a speaker is not properly connected you get an echo. Is this possible?

If so, is it possible that a connection has come loose inside my laptop and is causing the echo, because i didn't change any settings and it just happened one day.

I hope not
