Epic/Uplifting Trance Set

DJ Tim - 12.13.03 Immersion
12 tracks

Mixed on my computer with rather crappy MP3 mixing software. The transitions aren't perfect, I'll warn you in advance, but I'm satisfied with it.
Btw, the server hosting the mix limits my downloads to 4 per day. If it's over the limit, please check back tomorrow.

2. 4 Strings Daytime (Icone Mix)
3. Armin Van Buuren Yet Another Day (Hiver & Hammer Mix)

5. Aquanauts Deep Sea (Martin Eyerer Remix)
6. Signum Second Wave (Promo Vinyl)

Ok well, your tracklist is pretty solid. You said it's an uplifting/epic set, and it definitely is.

However, the biggest problem with your set is the technical aspects of your mixing. No offence, but on the technical level you need a lot of practice for beatmatching and improving your transition harmonics. Another thing you might want to work on is your phrasing...throughout the mix i noticed that you seemed to be fading in the next track _very_ early, e.g. while a melody was still playing in the first track. sometimes that can sound cool but with the tunes you were playing it just sounded confusing. which reminds me, several times you faded in the bassline of the next track but it made the basslines clash and sound really weird...try to fade basslines only if they are close to or in the same key, otherwise you can just instantly change the basslines.

but yeah all that was really wrong with this mix was the technical side. really practice trying to smooth out beatmatching and the mix harmonics. keep it up

Thanks for your comments.

I don't want to make excuses, but the mp3 mixing software I'm using is really crappy. There's no way to use headphones to beatmatch the incoming track without the audience hearing it. Whatever you hear in the mix is what I heard when I mixed it. It's a real pain.

Not only that, but there's no EQ. I could really use it to solve the clashing bassline problem you mentioned.

This is pretty much the best I can do with the equipment I'm using. I'm trying to work up the nerve to buy either turntables or CD decks, but I'm a little strapped for cash at the moment.

Thanks again for listening.

you're not using atomix, by any chance? there's no way to audio-cue in that program, but with practice it's still possible to do pretty tight beatmatching (i know because i use atomix )...it does have eq's though.

edit: you might want to give Traktor a try. it's the best MP3 DJ'ing software out there.

I use traktor. And with my SBLive card I can auto cue. It's a lot of technical aspects though to configure everything so I can auto-cue without the audience hearing it.. heck sometimes I forget one tiny thing and they can hear me auto-cue anyways.

I'll respect Shadow's comments and hope you take them in, I know I am

Yeah, the technical parts are helped a lot if you know the tracks really well and set up a tracklist beforehand, or run through it a couple times and record it and listen back, seeing what worked and what didn't and make appropriate changes. All my Radio Freedom shows are completely on the fly, random playlists, so I make lots of errors, but if you have the time to put together a release you feel proud to post up, for future reference, try to arrange things a tad better.. some tracks are just really hard to mix together (last night I was trying to go from Peter Gun to Sarah McLahlan, and was having trouble with the highs..)

Atomix has EQs, you just can't see them with a default skin. Find a new skin for the program, and then you will be able to see them.
