Single Turntable?

Right, I am thinking of investing in decks,

firstly I cannot afford two technics mixer etc. So my question is this, is it feasible to buy say one techs deck Or equivalent a mixer and use my laptop as the other input.

Basically I understand all the comments about getting a good deck to start (holding value, no costly upgrages etc), so if i can only afford one deck to start, will i still be able to learn mixing on one deck, mixing vinyl into mp3 from my laptop while i save for the other deck?

Any feedback appreciated

Sure you will learn that way also. For basic beatmatching it actually makes no difference with what you mix. As for turntable handlin, you might not learn it as fast as you would with two TTs. I'm sure though that if you use a software that allows you to change the pitch (or speed) of the song, you will learn beatmatching just fine.

there have been pix around here w/ unconventional setups like that. one suggestion if going that route... try to make sure that all the vinyl you have is on you computer as well, that way, when you come up with "this song would go great with blah blah blah" you can still spin it.

i think that buying one 1200 and saving up for the other one is alot better idea than buying two crappy decks. once you get your hands one deck you will find a way to get the other one, and you'll be able to get your hands on some records and start figuring out how to mix with a TT. go for it

I started out just using 1 deck and my computer, but i found it rather annoying because i was using creative mixer as my mixer and it's not really ment to do that.

So then I got a POS mixer hooked up my deck and my cd player with no pitch control. I could only mix between 2 tracks, but that wasn't too bad for learning some beatmatching.

I could have used my computer instead of the cd player, but I don't really like the computer interface. So i'd suggest trying out some of the computer based music players with pitch control first.

And of course with a real mixer using a comp will be much less of a pain in the ass.

that's the setup i have right now. i am using a REALLY shitty mixer, one deck and my PC. the mixer is so limited though that my setup is good for only one thing: learning vinyl beatmatching. that's why my full mixes are made with MP3 mixing software. but you can bet that the second i have enough money, i'll have a second deck and a much better mixer

Does anyone know tho of a program which can alter the BPM of an Mp3 in realtime?

I used traktor before I got my decks, it's a pretty cool program, you can do quite a bit with it.
