Question Any Oakenfold lovers still out there?

All these posts about Armin Van Buren, Tiesto, and PVD. No Doubt they are illusive DJ's but have we forgot about the great Paul Oakenfold? If anyone still thinks Oakie is the best post here, we should continue showing him our support.

Oakie's been meh/ok lately, hope he starts picking up again

His recent working has been alright, but you gotta love the man for what he did in the past!

I would, if he never got such a big head.

Can't stand him for who he is more than the crap he's been playing for awhile now.

That is a good point, kinda like Tiesto is becoming...

i still think he's #1

Here's my stand on Oakey:

He got me into the scene. I've never stopped loving him. I've never gave up on him. He still is the greatest in my book. I hope Oakey never retires. I will always be thankful for him and his music. His stateside/presents sets are consistantly good, and his productions are gettin better. His next artist album will turn everyone's heads and then everyone will like him again. Ignorant logic the majority has really.

It's so stupid how people stop liking DJ's, and then all of a sudden like them again. Its like they're all about jumping on the bandwagon. Its FAKE. Oakey has been ahead of the music scene by at least 2 years. Oh yeah, I said that.

Yeah oakey was one of the first to get me into it, although he should probably retire one day from being a dj and maybe just be the boss of perfecto and helping other artists and stuff.

Posted by Evil_Gnome on Dec-19-2003 03:07:

That would rock to be mentored by Oakey!

Posted by placebo on Dec-19-2003 16:47:

He just changed his sound...I've head alot of his recent work, and I can't complain, he makes some really cool remixes of songs that you wouldn't really think would be remixed...Dave Matthews and POD for example.

Swordfish soundtrack was AWESOME, so was Bunkka, yeah you heard me, I liked Bunkka, minus that starry eyed suprise piece of shit, but other than that...

And his latest mix cd, Greatwall was really good too.

He's a good producer and a good DJ, I just listen to his music, I dont give a shit if he's an asshole in real life...

Oakey used to be the best from 97-9 but his change in sound is more americanised where he spends most of his time, and for those who wanted the old oakey sounds, we don't get them, and miss them as he was capable of the most mindblowing sets for cream & many others. it's a shame really, he'd easily beat tiesto if he was spinning the better trance again

Posted by chrome on Dec-19-2003 18:24:

2/3 years ago, i was really into his stuff, ive got 5 albums from him (two years at cream, bunkka, another world, GU: New York, and Ibiza)

meh, he WAS good

Posted by keithos27 on Dec-19-2003 19:08:

and he still IS.

i posted some long ass thread last night replying to this but apparently it's lost... basically i said that he was the one to get me (and apparently many of us) into trance... he's evolving, just like any good artist does... he's a business man, he knows how to run his shit... he is a little "big-headed" but so is every other superstar in the public eye... footballers, basketball players, rock stars, etc. he is the first "superstar dj". respect for that.

if you were a professional (at anything) and you did the same thing every day for 20 years you would get bored of that too, and you would want to evolve. that is what he's doing. he brought us all to someplace good (trance) and i trust he will bring us someplace good in the future as well.

That's a very BIG understatement. He's far more than a little.

So, I can deal with a little big-headedness.....but this man's head is like a blimp.

Damn, sucks my post got lost last night...was long

ah whatever man... does it really matter? do you enjoy the music? if so, cool. do you deal with him on a daily basis? i highly doubt it, so what impact does it truly have on your life what he is like personally? maybe it's that attitude that gets him more respect in the business world? who knows?

Posted by mto on Dec-19-2003 19:21:

I still like Oakenfold to some degree. He did change a lot, but he's still okay imo. Great Wall was pretty good, but nothing great. He did so much for the scene, so the respect is always there.

Posted by torontotrance on Dec-19-2003 20:36:

Oakenfold has gone awol but his contribution to the acid house scene and the uk scene in general should never be forgotten. You can try to minimize it all you want but the man is a legend even tho he has a big ego. I mean the man was at the forefront of the trance explosion in 1998 and 1999 and any of you wish to argue he sucked then? doubt it?

Posted by djeternal on Dec-19-2003 21:26:

oakey has been laying down sum phat sets. I never really cared about his mainstream shit and how much coke is in his head. I may not listen to him as much now...but he will pick up again. IM sick of tiesto, pvd, and now armin is gettin on my nerves.

Posted by speedracer_mec on Dec-19-2003 21:31:

still the best dj out there IMO

brings rare melodic prog remixes to the table

something i dont hear while listening to avb/tiesto/ etc

remixes of garbage/george michael etc

his diversity and dreamy prog/trance sets every week never fail to impress me.

always on top of his game in terms of tune selection although his mixing has gone to hell

Posted by razmataz on Dec-19-2003 21:37:

tranceport showed me the light and i have never looked back... for that i owe him big time. can't say i like his newer style but i have a feeling (more like hoping) that he will go through a rebirth and come back to his roots...

ps: yeah i dont like this bandwagon mentality crap-one day tiesto's the fav and the next day he's public enemy... bullspit

oakenfold lover??? right here baby

Glad to see all the support

It's great to see all the support. I am so sick of people saying that he is cheese or for noobs. I've been in love with him since my trance CD, which I copped by luck. Another World is incredible! Great Wall is fascinating. Every track makes you want to scream of excitement. Whether it be the romantic vocals or heavenly synths. There is definately an incredible presence whenever Paul Oakenfold takes the decks. I have never felt such warmth with any other DJ. I think Oakenfold has an incredible sense of what his crowd whats and if he is big headed, good! He deserves all the respect in the world. Made me a believer!

Posted by Slylee on Dec-19-2003 23:25:

maybe i'm a little out of the loop lately, but last time i checked, oakey throws down like 3 diff genres in one set...mostly nu school breaks and prog trance...my favorites when i think of oakenfold and "cheese", i think of his NYC GU from 99...he's moved on from the cheese, thank god. every time i've seen him live, i danced my ass off the whole set. guys like armin (cheese...no offense) don't get the crowd pumpin like oakey does in my opinion. i've seen armin live twice and the dance floor was still. why? because he throws down tracks w/ no bass line or steady beat...all you can do is stand there and whistle with your hands in the air...fun

don't get me wrong, armin is a great guy cuz i've met him, i just don't prefer his style.
