car cd player suggestions
I want to replace mrs tub's car cd player for christmas. Currently looking at pioneers DEHP7550 and 5550 models. Anyone got throughts on these?
she's already got a tuner type stacker in the car but she said she wants an in-dash single slot. The current system also has a whining noise esp when aircon is on, and sometimes only plays out the left speakers. No techie we've asked has been able to find any problem, which is why we want to replace the head unit.

I can't say which deck is better because I don't know model numbers off the top of my head, but that "whining" noise is caused by a bad ground. the techies who looked at were probably training or something.
get yourself a mp3 cd player....
Here's what you need:

Yeah, what they said.
I suggest Alpine.
as long as you buy alpine you cant go wrong.
Alpine is the way to go..... make sure u get one that can play MP3's straight off a disc
DEFINITELY go with either Pioneer or Alpine. Avoid Aiwa and Kenwood. Sony is OK. Pioneer and Alpine have nice EQs and they generally make your speakers sound alot better and louder than other brands. Like others have mentioned previously, get one that has MP3 playback capability. It's VERY convenient. And if you're thinking about Sirius and XM radio, I would go with XM. Sirius is commerial free, but the sound quality and music selection on XM is alot better. So if you're gonna get XM, get a Pioneer head unit. Oh yeah, DO NOT LET BEST BUY INSTALL IT!!! The installation they did for me was a nightmare. I was at BB for 10 HOURS!!!! And on top of that, it was a half ass job. The kit that they used to make the CD player fit into the dash was loose. The fader/balance controls were flip flopped. And after they installed an upgraded Sirius antenna which cost me another 50 dollars created an annoying feedback noise from the alternator (a loud whistling noise that comes through the speakers when the engine is on) that they would only fix if I gave them another 50 dollars!! So, do not go to Best Buy for an installation job. Alot of people think that some of those cornershops are horrible, which some are. But there are some good ones out there. Just make sure they install a new harness, instead of cutting your stock harness and hooking it up that way. Al & Eds do great install jobs from what I hear. You might wanna check them out. I'm not sure if they have those in Florida though.

alpine all the way. i have one that plays mp3s and i love it. cant go wrong with alpine.
1. don't get sony everyone says they break down.
2. Proper installation accounts for half of your sound quality. The winning and intermitten spearker problems are due to sloppy wiring.
3. Get a car stereo shop to do the installation if you dont know how to do it.
4. I bought a JVC headunit a couple of months ago and I've been very happy. mp3 feature is a must.
Pioneer has the best sound quality.
I've in my car a DEH-P3500 MP3 cd player and it works very well!, I saw the DEH- P7550 MP3 but was too expensive however if you can buy it. This model is in the top of Pioneer cd players. It has movie cartoons on the screen and a lot of functions. Go to Pioneer MP3's!
thanks for the feedback. I'm pretty much set on pioneer for the brand, as I can get very good prices on them. sounds like they have a pretty good reputation. From talking to salesmen, they seem to say that unless you're going with amps and subs and the like, there's not a lot between performance in the models, so just go with the feature list. Deinately thinking about also getting the TSC series speakers as well, they add a lot to the sound for not that much extra cost
Buy an Alpine CDA 9811.
I absolutely love mine.
