WTC Replacement
The Story
Well, there's always going to be debate on what should be there, if anything at all, but I think it's a pretty breathtaking replacement. I'll be anxious to see it once it's complete. Your thoughts?

I am fully in favor of the design, out of the ashes of such despair the purpose should be rebirth, as well as commemoration. The World will see the spirit of the American people and New Yorkers rise out of Lower Manahattan once again. I look forward to this project and the end result, especially the 1776 Towers and the Memorial site.
I think it's an interesting design. I'm not that fond of it, but it is a hell of a lot better than the original proposals.
My own personal opinion is that the two WTC towers should have been rebuilt on the old site, with memorials at the top. But as companies quickly relocated where they could find office space after 9/11, many aren't coming back to the city, so the two towers wouldn't make the best financial sense. (Regardless, I think the idea to recreate almost all of the old office space, something like 10m sq.ft.)
The 1776 foot height is a great idea. It will make it the worlds tallest building, at least until something gets built that's higher. Granted, the spire will make up a good portion of the 1776 feet. But then again, the spire is the reason the Petronas towers in Kuala Lumpur are classified as taller than the Sears Tower. (The Sears' antennas don't count as a spire).
One interesting note. Do you remember the drawings that got passed around the internet after 9/11 that showed a rebuilt mockup of the towers in the shape of a middle finger? According to one commentator, that effect will be created by the one tall tower, and the 4 surrounding buildings. I love it - New York showing the world where to stick it.

Here's another pic. Look at the size of even the smaller buildings. This is still going to create a huge amount of office space. The next tallest building is going to be about 70 stories as well, but with a huge amount of area per floor.

I suppose the "freedom" tower sounds somewhat better than the "french" tower

Viva la France
Just goes to show the "intelligence" of the French. They build something beautiful, and then get rid of it.
I can just hear the French builders now:
"Hey, Pierre, you forgot to put zee armpit hair on her!"
"Zut alors! You are correct, Michel! We must hide our terrible mistake. Give it to zee Americans."

when did superman move his crytal hideout from the northpole to NYC?
The buildings look pretty nice. Definitely better than the old design. Although the name "Freedom Tower" is really stupid imo. Funny how the amount of times word freedom is used in right-wing circles is inversly proportional to the actual amount of freedom in the society.

ive decided no new design can match the appeal of the old. They should just rebuild the old towers, but 30 floors or something higher.

I'm surprised nobody has whined about the hippie wind tubrines at the top that will power the building.

The stats speak for themeselves: Coal Power Plant Year Available: 1900 Price: 5,000 Output: 6,000 MW-h Price per MW-h: 0.83 Lifespan: 70 years Total Value: 1.19 Comments Creates extremely high amounts of pollution. Wind Power Plant Year Available: 1980 Price: 250 Output: 200 MW-h Price per MW-h: 1.25 Lifespan: 120 years Total Value: 1.04 Comments Must be placed at high elevations for full output. There's no way in hell I'm paying an extra .42 sim-bucks for my electricity. |

DrUg_Tit0 you dont need a full sunny day to get power, i know of some cloudy and foggy areas that have solar panels and produce electricity, of course not at its full potential.
i know you were kiding but building a nuclear power plant up there would be a bad idea if another 911 happens and the buildings collapse.
