Michael Feihstel - Leaving (Original Mix)

Michael Feihstel - Leaving (Original Mix)
--------------------------------------------------------------------

This is pure Chillout/Breaks! The track starts with an orchestra intro which slowly builds up the sad but hopeful melody and leads the way towards the relaxing beats. Followed by a piano the track takes a break and continues with putting all together.
This is Track is for Listening - not for Dancing. Listen to this. The melody is pure beauty...

It's nice but there needs to be more atmosphere at the beginning. It might just not be loud enough. For some reason the strings also sound synthetic, dunno if you sampled them or not, it might just be the fx. Melody is nice though.

When the breakbeats come in, it is quality. You need some more things to fill up the track, however, cause it sounds kinda empty.

Good work so far, keep working on it.

if you upload the track to my FTP I will host you a link that is permanent and has no bandwidth restrictions

The intro is a tad boring IMO, but once the track starts rolling it's quite nice. You've got a lot of db headroom, so learn to use it, you can up the volume on the entire track by atleast 6db. The track also sounds a little flat, not enough lows and hithats lack definition.

Here's a little sample of it through my usual mastering setup.

Keep up the good work!

Pure quality and a very relaxed tune.
A uplifting trance remix would be great. Keep working.

Try the link that jcosgrove posted. It worked for me.

Ah, I must've missed that one.

Well... I can only echo what has been said earlier. The strings don't sound real and everything is just too simple.

The percs are very simple and sound like premade loops. At least put some variation to them... and the piano could also be a lot more complex, it's a bit of a letdown to be honest.

The idea seems good enough but somehow it only feels half-finished.

The start is way too long for what is there, really.

The strings are way too flat, and the piano doesn't particularly go anywhere.
The drums are fine essentially, but as Nik said, there just isn't enough variation there for what they are there doing. They do sound like simple loops, especially with the poor quality hi-hats.

No particular ending, either. Just the piano and an effect - needs a bit extra there.

As has been said, it has good ideas, and you have the bare-bones of a good track there. All it needs is a bit more work with the variation of the melodies, and to give the track a richer feel, and it will be fine.

Happy now, Nik? :P

You still didn't have to force me to register by threatening violence when I was over at yours.

OK, disappointing feedback for me...but it's honest. Let's forget about this mix. I'll do another one using this melody....i think it will go into another direction. No Breaks, no chillout...but still relaxing. I will inform you.
I think the melody is good enough to use it again...i don't want to throw it away.

No, keep the current theme. You just need more stuff to it.

dont be defeatist!

I thought this was pretty cool actually, but certainly had potential to be better. What you have is decent, but you just need something to elevate it from simply being generic

Like the others have said - keep it, just add to it. It has the basis of a fine track, especially keeping the chilled theme and the breaks.

Don't do that i liked the track (i'm no pro but i like this chilled tune).

Ok,If you think it's worth another try i'll keep on working on this track.

I'm not defeatist....I think it's ok if i get you're honest opinion (positive or negative)...I just expected it to be more positive.

But maybe you're right. After listening to the track a few times it sounds unfinished....

Thanks for your suggestions!

It's very abstract and ambient.

Relaxing tune indeed, very "minimalistic", if you want to say that.

I like the tune, I think it's fine the way it is, it just depends on what you were going for. If you were going for a more ambient/abstract style track, then thats what you have right here, but if you were looking to produce more of a danceable/housey track, then it definately needs more.

I enjoyed the tune though, not as good as your Numb remix, but still quality nonetheless.

Please don't give up on it, work on it some more

Keep it up

Thanks.

It wasn't meant to be a danceable track...it was meant to be relaxing. Just for listening.

Maybe I'll work on it. But right now I'm working on another Remix...The Basic construction for this remix is done...I started to remix "U2 - With or Without you"...but I'm not sure anymore if it works that well (no acapella, just the complete track...you know, cutting out samples etc.). I'm thinking about using "Coldplay - The Scientist" with this arrangement. What do you think?
