Winamp 5

I'd use the search, but it doesn't seem to be working right now.

Does anyone use Winamp 5? What do you think about it in comparison to previous versions? Is it the best one available at this time?

Thanks for your time, here's a random picture to show my appreciation:

hahahaha... it's good, if you have a fast system... it's a resource hog. winamp 2.91 is still the best all around winamp to date, in my opinion. i like to use winamp and itunes (i have an ipod).

*pstt*No. Winamp5 is not a resource hog. It's pretty much Winamp 2.X with support for the 3.0 features (thats why it isn't 4.0 but 2+3=5.0)

Thanks guys! that helps a bit

Here's another random pic

anybody else?

^^^^ Agreed. Although the load times suffer if you're using a pretty glitzy Winamp3 skin like MMD3 and the like. Besides that, It's only MARGINALLY more taxing on system resources as Winamp 2.91 was

i love the Echo skin only because it has the trasparent oscilliscope
which just makes me jizz all over myself

uhhh.... yes it is... just compare the load times and the resources it uses... whatever... i can spare the resources... i'm just saying that it does use resources.... i dont give a crap, but it does.... just warning everyone out there... it's still damn good.

Winamp 5 seemed great at first but then after a day it started doing weird things to my computer. First, the volume knob I use on my keyboard stopped working and then it started changing all the sound drivers. I had to update my driver just to get the sound working again. Then that little "volume control" icon in the taskbar went away and when I tried to open it from the start menu it said "Error: Mixer Device not available, etc." WTF? I did a system restore back one day just to get back to the way I had everythnig with Winamp 3.(thank God I set restore points automatically once a day, Thanks WinXP!) I think I'm going to wait for them to fix Winamp 5 up a little more before I install it again.

It's your drivers.

read the winamp forums.... winamp 5 is really just winamp 2 but with fancy, winamp 3 type stuff added.... just get the LITE version of WA5 and it'll run just as good as 2.x

i had to format 2 days ago, so i had no choice but to get winamp 5... works fine for me... but really, if you're already using 2.91, no sense in upgrading... if it ain't broke, don't fix it, =P

I think i'll stick with 2.91, Winamp3 and 5 doesnt even suport those old visualization plugins or the shoutcast client plugin.

Why not? Just because the Winamp site does not have it for download? That doesn't mean that you can't find it on another site. I'm going to stay loyal to 2.91 for awhile until I hear some better remarks about it.

i switched to the winamp5 beta about two months ago (when it was first mentioned here). i have no complaints at all, far better then winamp3 for sure, and still way ahead winamp2.x

meh... too lazy to look... but for anyone who wants winamp 2.x, there's the http://www.winampheaven.net site....

i'm not for or against winamp 5... i just have it, and its working just fine... it only has to do ONE thing, play mp3... and it does it just fine, =P.

Posted by PatMcGroin on Dec-23-2003 09:14:

winamp 2.91 still does everything i need it to, so i dont feel like bothering with a newer version. why fix it if it aint broke?

Posted by m0sh on Dec-23-2003 09:24:

I'm the only one who has winamp 2.95

I've got Winamp 2.81 .. D/loaded Winamp 3 once, and gave me all kinds of problems.. so I went back to my loyal 2.81.. heavent changed it ever since, and as it goes.. I wont for a time, until something extraordinar comes out.

Posted by yujie__ on Dec-23-2003 16:41:

it seems alittle bloated compare to 2.95 but less than 3. it takes alitte longer for it to laod and feels the same as the 2.9x.

Posted by benh on Dec-23-2003 18:59:

hoe do you get rid of gap between tracks when playing continuous
mixed cds with winamp?. I get gaps when playing retail mixed cds.

Posted by mr. poopyhead on Dec-23-2003 20:35:

one feature i'm really starting to like in 5 is the global hotkeys... i dunno if there was a plugin or something for 2.x, but global hotkeys are really useful... i usually listen to my mp3s while playing games and stuff and now i can control winamp from anywhere...

Posted by smokeape on Dec-23-2003 23:09:

I have Winamp 3 on one computer with 98SE and Winamp 5 on another with WinXP. Both run fine with no problems. I always disable the glitzy and annoying stuff in them that I don't use anyway.
