Techno N00b
Help!
I love tracks by Agoria, Laurent Garnier and Chris Liebing. Unfortunately, I haven't had that much exposure to techno and I am bit lost (the fact that the search function is down does not help either).
Any suggestions of essential techno tracks?

first of all if you havent already get this liveset:
DJ Rush - Live at Mothership
its available in the Livesets section. in the Polls forum there should be a poll for your favorite techno artist and the guy lists like 30 so go through that list and do some random sampling. I recommend DJ Rush and Sven Vath

Yeah Picotto is the techno God, but unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to hear much of his stuff, hopefully a third album is in the works. Check out Like A Dog* in particular.
*I've a theory where the name of this came from, as it was out about the same time as CRW- Like A Cat, also Picotto but fluffy trance. Maybe its like the two opposites of Picotto?

is that why chris liebing is playing at meganite @ storm along with picotto at the beginning of february. if liebing, beyer, clarke, umek, de hey and all these "real techno" dj's love to have a laff at mauro's expense then why is it they all play his tunes and play at his events.

Oh rite and Paul van Dyk spins at a festival that is techno orientated, ie. the loveparade, so i guess that makes Paul van Dyk a techno DJ to.

Last time I saw Mauro he played Komodo. Banging techno that!

true dat. After seeing Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing, Gayle San, Ben Sims, Sven Vaeth, Dave Angel etc. I think I know what "techno" sounds like. And what I heared from Picotto this very summer was precisely the same banging music, mixed brilliantly and prsented with Mauro's unique charm qand crowd interaction. This guy finally deserves some respect imo. He played it more groovy than Liebing.

What does that proove? Now go dig up his Trance Energy, his Gatecrasher, his Innercity TL's. I've seen plain trance sets from him to.
Next you'll be saying Marco V plays Psy because of his Shockers set.

There's a wee difference from sticking one psy tune into your set (which was at Sensation btw, not Shockers) and playing almost nothing but techno in every set you do. Even in Mauro's TE set there was 1/3 techno, and the rest was pretty much all of his trancier productions which he had to play since he was at Trance Energy after all.
The fact is, Mauro produces and plays 100% techno in his sets nowadays, his tunes get played by a horde of techno DJs, and when he gets booked nowadays he plays on techno floors/techno events. If that's not enuff to be called a techno DJ I dunno what is. Granted he was trancy back in the day, but not now. I think it's about time certain ppl realized that techno is not only about 4/4 loop techno tracks and that it can have some synths or melodies in it without going trance or prog.
Posted by chesco on Dec-24-2003 17:31:
what about the gatecrsher 6 hour set, that was techno all the way with the odd trance number dropped in here and there.
when you laff at tunes like komodo, iguana, and like this like that you always are quick to forget that he did about six different mixes of each one, most of which were techno mixes.
fair enuff you don't like him, but to say that everybody in planet techno is laffing at him is just wrong.

You are free to make your own mind up what kind of DJ you pigeon hole him as...
