-- Question : Sound Blaster 16 PCI
Question : Sound Blaster 16 PCI
I need a soundcard for my monitor so that i can do some mixing, is a Sound Blaster 16 PCI good enuf? I have an onboard PCI Audio Card right now, its no M-Audio but it delivers good quality imo.
I want to use Virtual Turntables to mix, and i think its different from traktor cause it doesnt distinguish between monitor and master, it just has channel 1 and channel 2. i think that means that i will be hearing both sounds cards from my master, so in that case, does the Sound Blaster 16 PCI deliver good enough quality. its 16-bit audio....
or should i spend the extra 30 bucks and get the soundblaster live
keep in mind, im not spending 150 bucks on whatever M-audio soundcard recommended, im on a budget.
They don't sell the SB16 PCI anymore, do they?
Anyway, a Creative SB4.1 digital (5 channel soundcard) shouldn't set you back more than about 15$. Remember that if you want to be able to use headphones for monitoring you need to have at least 4 sound channels available (either 2x 2-channel soundcards or one 4+ channel).
Heheh, I used to have SB16 in my very first PC... 133mhz...
ya, a sb16 will do just fine for what you want to do, but you may wanna go w/ the lowest sblive just because it is newer and might have a bit more longevity if you ever need to remove it from your pc. search around on the internet, might be able to find a basic sblive for the same as your sb16 you were looking at. i dunno about those exact cards, but newegg.com and mwave.com usually have some good prices (if you are in the states).
thx guys, the sb16 is 50 bucks at future shop right now and the sblive is 80, but im shopping on boxing day so i can expect to pay much less...
try pricewatch and froogle.google.com unless this is one of those things that are needed yesterday and you must go out and purchase this now.
Most soundcards today will give you good enough play back quality, even onboard sound in most cases. The thing you pay for these days on soundcards are different things i.e. midi and digital etc. Even the SB16 back in the day played back at CD quality if my memory is correct (which it often isn't but hey
)
Cheers
