Party Hat Benassi-sound?

Ok now the forum search function's back but I couldn't find what I was looking for, so here it goes, a new post-

I'm sorry to make a million of these posts, but I'm in the midst of learning about synthesizing and sound production, so I'm looking for some advice on the Benny Benassi-sound. Gimme a few pointers on the basic soundshape please, and I'll experiment from there.

use a saw waveform, put some distortion/overdrive to the sound and play with the eq settings. the sound is quite easy to recreate.

i used the Muon Tau2 for this example

can I get the same sound with Pro-53?

Posted by cyrus2k2 on Dec-25-2003 21:16:

hmm, i think you can, since all u need is just a single oscillator set to SAW and some overdrive.
or get the Muon Tau here, it's free: http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/50.html

Hmm i wanna do it with pro
How can i set the oscillator to SAW ?
And where can i find an overdrive?

wow, i'm surprised how easy this works with the pro-53.
ok, here's how i did it. btw, i'm using fruityloops.

open up the pro-53 and load the preset called 'empty (1).p5p'. the 1st oscillator is already set to SAW (the one red LED). set GLIDE (you'll find it beneath the OSCILLATOR settings) to 2 o'clock. that's it.

now here comes the tricky part. it's time to add some fx
my fx-line goes like this

Fruity Parametric EQ
Fruity Fast Distortion
Fruity Compressor
Fruity Blood Overdrive

Fruity Parametric EQ:
cut everything under 220Hz and boost up the range around 500hz about 3.0db

Fruity Fast Distortion:
set Pre-Amp, Threshold and Mix to maximum.
Post-Gain is aroun 1 o'clock

Fruity Compressor:
is used a standard preset, i think. other settings will also work

Threshold: -16db
Ratio: 3.0:1
Gain: 5db
Attack: 18ms
Release: 440ms
Type: Soft

Fruity Blood Overdrive:

PreBand: 0.0
Color: 0.5
PreAmp: 0.5
x100: off
PostFilter: 0.0
PostGain: 0.0

It doesn't sound exactly like the sound from the muon tau, but it comes quite close to it. just play around with the EQ and Overdrive.

cheers...

You've either eq'd the top end way way to much, or are using the wrong filter

btw, can anyone upload a midi for this or provide a link to one?
