Dunno Darker trance..?

Need some help/advices how to make "darker" (more progressive) trance songs...

Now I am really stuck to make those cheezy euro trance melodies. I do like euro trance, but would love to make darker stuff...

I like stuff like Dana International - Maganuna, Sven Vth - Mind Games, Covenant - Call the ships to port (club mix/Kaylab mix)...

But maybe someone coul give more artist/producer names who make this kind of songs/music... And vocals are always plus

If i was u i wouldnt put a melody in. Same with vocals. Unless ur an extremely great producer u will probably make ur tune too cheesy if u do that.

U could try second wave or third dimension by signum. I think thats the type of stuff u want to make.
For making this type of music u have to spend ages experimenting with percussion and fill the tune with fx. Listen to all the wooshes and weird things in the tunes i mentioned. Its not easy to give tips for making this music because its so complicated and u can only really make it by experimenting urself. Try making ur own hats/claps/whatever in a synth. Thats what i do usually. Also use the granulizer on some of ur samples so they sound original.

Hey, thanks for the tips

I know that this "darker" trance (or whatever it is called) needs much experimenting and LISTENING to same kind of music.

So more names of songs/producers!!! Please!?

i think l-vees body shock - destination nexus or break this is quite dark! i like this stuff a lot!
i wish i could produce sooo good! but time will come!

perhaps you can listen to it and tell me if this is the sound youre searching for! also others opinions wished on this!

not eq-ed or compressed or anything else! so dont worry about the sound quality!

Well i dont know much recent stuff as ive not been listening to much new trance or buying new records for the past while because most of it has been shit. Id probably not remember anyway as i was pissed last night and have a bit of a hangover
But anyway, u can try these oldies
rba - no alternative (quo vadis mix) (good hats in there)
mauro picotto - lizard (megavoices mix), + most of picottos more recent stuff
signum - thrillseeker
Some baby doc/cosmic gate/scot project/shokk/marco v/warp brothers etc stuff will all give u good ideas too. And listen to some hard house tunes by the likes of nick sentience because theres usually good fx in them.

Theres not really much to comment on so far. The quality is ok, the synths are decent but too loud and the kick and hats/shaker things are good. Id put a harder kick in on top of the 1 already there.
I dont like the chord changes tho.

Posted by Klangzentrum on Dec-26-2003 18:08:

the chord changes are, because its just an overview of the track! i know it cant stay this way
mastering is the next thing!
also a percussion line is needed!
ill try another kickdrum layed over (thx for the tip)!

but u thought of posting this sample, because it has a dark atmosphere, imo!

Yeah, it sounds quite darkish Needs those percussions...

Good start IMO.

And thanks for thoes names... But I would really like to know "dark" trance songs with some vocals... Thanks in advance

Posted by Klangzentrum on Dec-26-2003 19:41:

Nat Monday - Waiting [John Creamer & Stephane K Mix]
dark atmosphere, nice vocals, but not really a trance-song! very good to thing about a lot of things...

Lenny Kravitz - Believe In Me [Shane 54's Pink Flood Remix]
cool remix! i like the original, but i love this remix!

Scanners - Prayer [Original Mix]
driving dark-trancer, but with no real vocals...

DJ Tiesto - Lethal Industry [Mauro Picotto Remix]
same problem like in the scanners track

James Holden - Nothing [Hiver & Hammer Remix]
a little more deep and trancy than the 93 returning remix...

these are a few tracks, which i hope they belong to the kind youre searching for...
