yest another headphone thread (Sony's)
Most people seem to be torn between the Sony 700's andf Pioneer's hdj1000's. I'm curious to see is anyone has ever used some of the other Sony Hp's...Like the mdr-v900 or the MDR-7509's. I've seen a lot of the bigger named DJs use them, and wanted to get some opinions...thanks...

they are both very expensive pairs of headphones
the 900s are designed primarily for studio monitoring, as are the 7509s
The 7506s are a cheaper version of the 7509s and are regarded highly
Not sure about the 900s
ps i use both the sony 700s and hdj 1000s- cant go wrong with either for dj use
Freak, you're completely wrong about the 7506's being a cheaper version of the 7509's. The 7506's are actually a much older design, dating back to 1985, when the now-classic MDR-V6's (not to be confused with the newer MDR-V600's) were first introduced (and during a time long ago when Sony actually cared about quality and performance). But these days, Sony's expensive new headphones are a sizable step down from their predecessors in both quality and performance -- in other words, Sony's newer expensive headphones are just as disposable as their really cheap models. (Like, the MDR-V600's were intended to replace the MDR-V6's back in 1992 -- but they sound much, much worse than their MDR-V6 predecessor! But Sony has kept the MDR-V600's in the line for so long, because they either haven't come up with a suitable replacement or their North American distributors had stockpiled so many pairs of those 'phones which Sony's official American/Canadian distributors couldn't get rid of quickly enough.
In other words, it's probably safer to buy the Sony MDR-V6.. if you can find them used, they can go for under $50 USD....
But, here's a nice recent review of the 7509's..

i've had 3 pairs of the v-6's in the 10 years i've been dj'ing...the failure in the 2 that broke was the right side going out both times. but i swear by the v-6's and won't use anything else. you can get them at the sony store in the beverly center (if you live in LA) or from frye's electronics. they use them a lot in movie/tv/radio as well so any of the stores that supply to those industries usually have them as well. they did stop making the v-6's for a few years back in the early 90's but started making them again after the 7506 (or whatever they were called) failed to wow the consumers.
i've listened to the 900's many times, as a friend of mine has them. the f*cker bought them just for listening to his favorite rock and roll CD's
Anywho, I plugged in some decent electronic music and listened to them, all I could say was
