Dunno Organizing music

How do you guys organize your music on your computer? Is there a program that will let you manually rename mp3s and change the ID3 tag to reflect the filename for you?

Any help would be appreciated

I just do it manually.

i think this is what i used to rename mp3 file names after itunes messed it up for me

actually that's not it but it works as well, cant really find out since my main computer is broken

I rename my files/ID3s as I download them and then organize them in alphabetized folders.

Word!

I rename every file once i have downloaded them with this format:

Artist (feat. X) - Song Title (XYZ Mix).mp3

Then i put my files into different folders according to Genre.....

I have the following folders for music/sound files:
Dance
Live DJ Sets
Rap
RnB
Rock
Top 40 - Pop
TV Theme Songs & Funny Stuff

Amen to that. I cant be arsed to read all that crap like release group initials and what number the song is on the vinyl etc. And all those underscores are annoying. I rename to

Artist - Track (Remix)

or

Artist - Event, Location (Date) (Part)

Then just whack 'em all in a folder called music, hehe.

Manually is always a good way to go.

I use mp3-tag Studio

http://www.magnusbrading.com/mp3ts/

Once you use an editor you'll never go back to editing manually.

Posted by montie on Dec-29-2003 04:09:

name them as i get them via winamp

then they go into the big music folder

Posted by Perfect_Cheezit on Dec-29-2003 04:23:

renamed accordingly as they are acquired, although i dont usually change id tags

then just dumped into "mp3s"

Posted by mndeg on Dec-29-2003 04:26:

i have a program that can take the id3 tag and generate a filename or take the file name and generate an ID tag

Posted by TwoPlow on Dec-29-2003 06:11:

I rip all the id3 tags. They piss me off.

As far as sorting goes, I'm the most anal person you will ever meet. Seriously. Everything has perfect titling (As far as I know) and I've spent a very large amount of time finding a folder system that works. Get my list on DC or something, you'll see what I mean.

Because I'm a hardcore music nerd.

I wish mp3 tags used xml keyword/tree scheme especially for genre, because a lot time i find music that falls into multiple categories or can be described in general or more specific terms. I just held a party and sometimes you want to play random hardcore or mello musics of different genres. When you get into mainstream music something can be pop, rock, and alternative.

i cant be stuffed renaming cos i end up downloading like 50 files at once. so they go in big random folders hehe

if i need to find something i just search in winamp it has all my mp3s
