Smoking ..umm..something No smoking!

There will be No smoking inside since June 5,2004 in Toronto area!!!

Posted by DigitalMP on Dec-29-2003 00:22:

that started in the middle of last summer here in New York State. Some smaller places won't make the cut, and will lose too much money to remain in operation. Others will allow people to smoke, but will have cups filled halfway with water to put out their cigarettes, since ashtrays won't be allowed.

Club/bar owners will bitch, and think they will have the power to change things, but they won't get very far, however, they may find loopholes in the law, which might allow pre-existing cigar bars, etc., to allow smoking, or something like that.

More places will open outdoor patios for people to smoke, and people will be out there until october/november when they can't feel their fingers anymore.

Imagine how packed the Skybar is going to be during the mid-october season finale (instead of Labour of Love) when it's frigid up there...

i think thats a bullshit law...if u dont want second hand smoke party outside

Posted by matty on Dec-29-2003 01:09:

Finally!! Smokers suck

Posted by Muff2K on Dec-29-2003 01:22:

whatever. it's beneficial to all in the end. people want to smoke, people want to party, people MIGHT not party where they can't smoke. BUT most people prefer partying than killing themselves, so they see it as a good thing in the end.

party and live longer.

i am a smoker btw, and i enjoy it very much when drinking or high. but i'm also a realist.

this is a good thing for the general public

I hate coming back home when my hair, clothes smell like ashtray.... eeewwwwwww!!

I concur. It's nasty - I don't care what anyone says. (Not to mention the soot-like layer of grime that ends up coating your body.) A friend of mine went to a shoe store to get some cleaner for her suede shoes she wore to a club event a few days before and the employee that was helping her actually asked, jokingly/sarcastically, "What did you do, go to a rave or something?". Heh...

my thoughts exactly. i hate smelling like smoke. it was nice when they set the ban here in NY, but eh...i don't party here. i go to TO for that, and smell like smoke. but it's worth it.

imagine, no smoking in the comfort zone? bwhahahaahahahaha

or they could just install electric heaters covered by a tent or wooden roof (that's what they did in London in many places and it's actually warmer outside than it is inside). Why can't they just designate certain rooms to be smoking? At the Guv, it could be that room you use to get to the skybar or the VIP room in the Guvernment? If they don't install heaters, people shouldn't have to freeze their asses off outside once every hour or two.

Posted by infinity HiGH on Dec-29-2003 05:03:

so does that mean we can't smoke weed in clubs anymore????

Posted by MarkT on Dec-29-2003 05:13:

good riddance!

Aside from the second hand smoke, which is obviously the main issue, twice recently I've been burned by some fuctard not paying attention while they push their way through the dancefloor

and yes...the pot can stay

Posted by oleshka on Dec-29-2003 06:52:

awesome news! now I can go to a club again! I haven't really been going much since the all-ages clubbing days, a lot due to the smoking issue!

good job Toronto

I'm careful with my smokes...I've only ever burned myself.

But second hand smoke from a joint is just as bad, if not worse, than a cigarette. the filters on ciggies do a good job you know.

I realise you're just joking, but you can't be anti-cigarette but pro-marijauna...that's totally hypocritical.

Posted by malek on Dec-29-2003 10:23:

prays that city councillors in montreal do something about this issue

also, why not ban smoke machines those things are toxic (maybe not)

Posted by alec on Dec-29-2003 11:35:

Welcome to Ottawa 3 years ago!

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Dec-29-2003 11:45:

The Liberals were going to ban it within 3 years anyway so Toronto decided to jump the gun and ban it themselves without being ordered to do so. (typical power struggle politics)

What I don't like is the increase in tobacco taxes...it's just going to create smuggling problems again. In fact, I'm already hitting up some Native people for 4 dollar ciggy packs.

Posted by Skipper on Dec-29-2003 13:41:

Weed was never allowed in clubs, so the only difference in that respect is that it will be much more obvious when you smoke a J.

Posted by brunette on Dec-29-2003 14:12:

wow.. this could never work in Eastern Europe!

hahahaha ABSOLUTELY!!!

Posted by Orko on Dec-29-2003 14:25:

June 5th!!! Thats too far away, why cant it be Jan 5th??

but as an assmar sufferer, i am super glad for this ban. I hated going to club and coming back sick or feeling like shit, cause of the smoke.

And i have three burn marks in my fav orange pullover that i wear to clubs.

at least no more of that!
