Wink new :: state of matter - starlight requiem (icone remix)

Hey all,

I recently finished this remix for an online friend of mine (you know who you are ). Because the orignal already had a strong pad lead, I decided to go more for my own style, mixed up with a bit of Gouryella at the end, thanks to that epic-sounding string sequence of the original.

Download here (192 kbps) :

state of matter - starlight requiem (icone remix)

Lemme know what you think

spectacular track!

bassline is awesome.
love the choir too..

it sounds a tad muddy when everything plays together though, i think there might be a bit too much reverb on the strings. nothing bad, but imo they could be a bit clearer..

other than that it's perfect.. wonderful production, it's massive!!

Comments as I listen:

-That synth that busts in right at the start sounds way too 80s for me, hehe.
-The other intro effects are cool, I like that gallopping sound.
-Dope kick; best I've heard you use so far.
-Bass is really nice, could possibly use a little more sub-bass though. Actually scratch that, sounds good.
-Dope percussions and pad. Entire intro is really nice.
-Not a big fan of the bassline note progression, but the melodies sound great over-top of it.
-Nice breakbeat, but maybe bring out the snare in it a bit more.
-Sounds pretty massive after the breakdown, I like it.

This is my favourite of your tracks thus far, good work man.

agree's with sean about it being the best kick you have used

You already know what i think Fantastic as usual, thanks for the remix. Ill have to speed up the remastering process on the original so you don't completely put me to shame

Kevin :: thanks mate! Glad I could impress you once

You did like the pianos in this one then? I was thinking of scrapping the strings behind the lead, but it resulted in a bit of 'empty space' when I tried...

dj-sean :: I know about that synth in the intro, I've thought about leaving it out near the start. Then, I placed some more reverb and delay on it, so it would sound more atmospheric. Dunno if that worked? Thanks for your input.

dbl :: thanks for your comment, I appreciate it (as always)

SoM :: I think it could nice along that awesome original, don't think it's better at all imo - remixes are hardly better or a match for the original

dj zero :: I'm glad you like it mate, thx.

ravemonkey :: well, then I must have come a long way for you thanks for having a listen.

i wouldn't scrap them, i'd just put a bit less reverb on them..

I like a majority of the synths on this song. The Chorus, and the Pads rock man! The kick rules like DJ_Sean said, and that is so true! Man, Wim, you are DEFINETLY improving. I wanna hear some more Icone/Lightworks production, in the future.

Like I said in past chats/PM's, I admire your stance. Keep it up! Even though some of my musical tastes are a bit different, since I love to produce IDM, I can still listen to this kinda sound with an open ear, and accept it for what it is. It's just a big part of the big happy family of Electronica in general.

One more thing.

-Love the Melody
-Like the Kicks
-Like the synths
-Love the Pads/Choirs
-Like the Energy too.

That's all I can say for now! -Mental

Thanks Mental and Romain, glad to have your comment.

I'm glad I'm still improving, wouldn't wanna hit the top right now without a contract

great job man im really digg'n this rmx. at first it seems like the snare/clap has too much reverb but after everything else comes in, it fits well. I wouldn't mind hearing this on some pimp speakers
(just realized how much I suck compared to others on this board)

Posted by EternalMusic on Jan-07-2004 12:19:

Incredible ! This and the Original one are both well prodcuced, love them, i actualy have no bad comments to say.
