Steve Irwin Appreciation Thread

Just looking at his gorgeous eyes on A Current Affair made me want to cry. That has to be the best ACA exlcusive since "Which dish washing liquid has the best value."

*cue guns and roses - november rain*

Did you see him go off at the Current Affairs presenter hehe...but in all fairness, he did know the dangers and knowing Steve, he is capable of taking care.

So this whole thing about the baby being in his act i think was a bit harsh to be critisized that way.

ahhh Steve, crazy ****

I loved that episode too... GO Morning Fresh!!!

Back 2 the topic, Steve irwin doesnt appear 2 be the smartest of people, talkin about his great gand parents being in world war II and stuff on ACA... i mean whats that got 2 do with why he took his child into the feeding pool or whatever they call it... But i reckon media is blowing it out or proportion, the guy is a croc hunter FFS, its what his profession is... im sure he didnt want any harm for his child...

i reckon u just gotta let some shit slide man....

PS. GO Steve Irwin For Australian Of the YEAR!!!

i think steve might have one too many XXXX's before his interview

MY GRANDFATHERS DIED IN WORLD WAR 2 SO THAT I COULD RAISE MY KID HOW I WANTED, THEY FOUGHT FOR DEMOCRACY AND DIED!

Tracy grimshaw was giving it plenty of WHAT THE FUCK i think.

I use to take Steve Irwin seriously in the early 1990s. Now that I've seen hes sold his soul to the yanks he can go fuck himself.

Posted by Chuck Norris on Jan-05-2004 14:25:

OMG XAVIER NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS FFS (((((((((((((((((

Way to go and break my heart. =/

Counter-Croc.

Obviously Steve is wallhacking, but regardless....

Posted by VADER on Jan-05-2004 15:04:

other side of the world saying go Steve go

I just saw the pics in our newspaper about Steve. I think everyone should let him do what he wants. Its his baby, it didn't get hurt, and hes a professional (maybe sometimes a bit whacky) so who cares. I think Steve kicks ass. Cheers from Vancouver

Posted by -=M=- on Jan-05-2004 15:19:

if his kid gets bitten then he'll be the one who regrets it, whys the public gotta bitch about it

rednecks in america do this shit all the time, by crikey!

Posted by webmeister on Jan-05-2004 21:49:

The whole thing is a complete beat-up...

Posted by Beemer on Jan-05-2004 22:26:

i think he was a lil stupid to not think of all the crap he'd get for it......but i think all the wanker do-gooders are even more stupid for giving a shit - why don't they worry about kids who are in REALLY dangerous abusive situations....Steve hardly seems to be really endangering his kids......meh

Posted by Aesthetic on Jan-05-2004 22:53:

the baby thing aside, this guy is the MAN!

Anyone else see him on the NBC Today show last nite?
"I'm teaching my kids to be Crock savvy. If you live on a busy road then you teach your kids to be street smart. Well I got crocks in my backyard so I gotta teach em to be Crock savvy"

WHen I saw the footage I thought he was fucked...but I spose thats the way he woulda been brought up...

Posted by narcism on Jan-06-2004 13:54:

People should only jump on their high horse if his kids get hurt,
but they wont because he is teaching them now

i want him 2 be my dad

you want your dad to dangle you infront of a crocodile?

anyway.. only saw bits and pieces of that interview one part where he said "he was in complete control".. what a load of bullshit. thats a wild animal he has no idea how its going to react, one small mistake and that kid would of been seriously injured or most likely dead.

just the same as jackson dangling his kid.. he thought he was in control, but one slight slip and OH OH!

Not really - he's been around crocodiles all his life, and has probably worked with that very same crocodile for many years.

He may be a brash loudmouth, but he's still a trained professional, and so has a very good idea of how the croc will react.

A few pointers:
1. The croc had just been fed. No hunger = no desire to lunge and snatch baby.

2. Crocs are known for their blistering movement emerging from the whatever to snatch unsuspecting animals at the water's edge. This exercise is very difficult - they need to slow their heart rate down to about 5bpm, allowing them to sneak up on the prey unnoticed, before a sudden burst of energy lets them grab an animal before it knows the croc is there. This croc was out of the water and thus incapable of this movement.

3. Shows and performances like this are based on the idea of "perceived danger" - something that looks dangerous but isn't that likely to be harmful. In this instance, we assume the croc is going to lunge at him any second, we are instinctively afraid of crocs, so we sit there on the edge of our seats thinking "OMG he'll be killed and eaten" -- but the reality is that it's just not going to happen.

As I said in a previous post, it's just a complete beat-up.

oh and re: this.

i was watching discovery channel the other week.. had a shark special on it. anyway this scientist guy who has specialised in sharks his entire life was standing in knee depth water showing some people a school of bull sharks.. quite happily talking and laughing nothing out of the ordinary for him ... showing off in a way.. next thing u see the guy getting dragged along by a shark.. ripped his leg apart.. something that shouldnt happen? trained professional who knows his surroundings and shark responses?
