Relationship forum?

Ok the idea isn't mine, I got it from the chill-out room, but I think that there's enough volume in posts regarding relationship troubles, advice, etc... (don't send the letter!) that a forum just for this could redirect a decent amount of the threads in the chillout room. I also think that because we make up the largest trance community on the internet, we're only going to get more and more registered users as the days go by (no reference intended). More users = more people asking for advice.

Plus it's always nice to have a place, virtual or not, where you can always get advice.

i think sum1 asked for this before and it got declined.

i presonally dont see the point of splitting up chillout room even more (after the polotics, sports, gaming and technical forums)

The politics forum worked, games & sport are doing ok, not particularly active, the FAQ forums have their use.

I think it's cluttered enough already, a new forum is the last thing we need.

Aye, most of the relationship threads suck anyhow, although the one which generated 'don't send the letter!' was class.

Posted by Coup on Jan-13-2004 21:46:

if we remove the "how do i impress this hot chick" threads, the relationship total is pretty bleak..

Posted by Flippe on Jan-19-2004 15:53:

I don;t think that is is an good idea... I mean it's trance addict.

Not i have realtionshipproblems forum

I'd approve of such forum if myself, Jay, Arctic, UWM & Coup got to mod it, and hand out good 'advice'

We don't need another section...what we need is all the waste of space threads (including all threads outside of relationship threads) to be closed or removed...the server gets so bogged down with spam posts, flames, and +1's (+0's), that some sections and some users are basically out of control...earlier today it took me 14 minutes for the server to finally load a page since there was so much worthless crap going on in a couple threads in the chillout room. Clean up the current mess, and keep the section clean of anything that gets out of hand (yes, I know it's babysitting some of our kids) and you would have a much better chillout forum and board in general to browse through without adding sections.

That's my opinion....

If you're looking for spam, you might want to check out some of the local forums. The worst stuff is not in the chillout room, I assure you.

But in general, yes, I'd have to agree with this sentiment. Trim the fat, don't give it its own name!

believe me...i am pointing there as well at the 9000+ reply threads that exist there...i've posted in them...but they are quite pathetic and we need to move on.

Then tell me, where would u draw the line ?

COR is after all meant to be just that, chilling out and talking about just about anything.
of course all the really stupid ones get closed or deleted

like the numerous BTG i am drunk threads or vividboys numerous post pics of ur mom threads

but how far do u go without being overbearing ?

Are we talking about the relationship threads or the spam? Because the spam we're talking about isn't even in the chillout room, it's usually in local forums and takes the form of gigantic colossus superthreads with 5000+ posts (maybe even 10000+ or rapidly approaching it) and no real direction or purpose, which people use as personal chatrooms or to increase their post count.

To the best of my knowledge, the PPR and banshee threads were closed because their enormous sizes were slowing down the forums (which makes 100% sense to me because the forums are indexed by post and merging 10,000 records into a single result set takes a long time) - now, some of these spam threads have almost doubled in size over the past few weeks, and in a shocking turn of events, the forums seem to be getting bogged down lately.

If we're still talking about the relationship stuff then I don't know, some people ask for legitimate stuff but I wouldn't be too upset if the vast majority of "I want to ask this guy/girl out but I'm a dickless geek with no confidence, how do I do it?" threads were closed. A bit of common sense has to be applied I guess - just close the really stupid ones that sound like they're written by 12-year-olds.

I did check with the management about the concerns voiced in this thread regarding the pathetic "9000+ reply threads that exist in the local forums."

There is only one which I'm sure all 3 of you know so you can understand, if you care to understand, why I was interested in the thoughts voiced here.

The word from above:

"threads like that DO take up server time as it slows down the seek time; however, if only a couple of people are posting, veiwing, refreshing then the difference is hardly noticeable; if u had 100 ppl doing it then u would see the difference."

I don't think we ever have more than 5 or 6 people doing it at a time.

If he had told me that we were causing Phlo's pages to load slowly or the forums to bog down, I would close the thread out of consideration for all of you. As it stands, he told me not to worry about it.

personally, i would like to see a relationship forum. usually when someone is posting about a serious topic that needs serious answers, a bunch of people will come in with a bunch of other crap. and frankly, if i post about a relationship i want advice, not meaningless spam. imo

Ahhh...the drama forum. Not a bad idea, methinks. Time for a poll.
