Is the movie "Groove" worth buying/seeing?

Ok, so I was going through some old dvds and came across my collection of Total Movie Magazine dvds(a now defunct "entertainment" magazine that came with a dvd of trailers/short films every month).

One of them had the trailer for the film "Groove." It looked pretty good... at the end of the trailer, the words "one night to the rest of your life" or something similar to that flashed across the tv. Trailers always suck me in with 'meaningful' sayings at the end.

So, do you recommend this movie to purchase? Is it worth watching? Any other movies similar to it? Thanks.

-the Total Movie dvd also had a trailer for the Jamie Fox movie "Bait"... they used Matt Darey's mix of Heaven's Earth in the trailer!

Groove was alright... I think they portrayed the "rave" scene really badly. It is a movie worth seeing but I wouldn't buy it. It has John Digweed and a bunch of local djs from San Francisco in it. I think it won an award at the Sundance Film Festival too. I say rent it and if you really dig it then buy it.

Posted by mute79 on Jan-06-2004 17:55:

it's a good movie to chillout too... worth buying imo

funny movie and come on, digweed shows up with a fresh crate of records! gotta love it

groove is the most idealistic of the rave movies, with that said it's not a bad film. but yeah rent it, don't buy it.

i haven't seen kevin and perry go large yet, but the best moving about clubbing/raving that i have seen is human traffic.

yeah, don't buy it, rent it. a must see for every trance lover though.

by the way, in human traffic 2 i wanna see someone complain about how trance either

1. is going mainstream
2. is too commercial
3. doesn't get too much play on MTV

I agree with everyone else. Rent before Buy.

I think it's a good movie. It was the first DVD movie I bought. I've seen it like 7-8 times and still love it.

edit:
Here are a few of the DVDs with Clubbing scenes/Dance Music I own:

Go (Great! Most of the music is produced by BT)
Groove
Hackers (Has Orbital - Halcyon On + On, Underworld - Cowgirl)
Kevin & Perry Go Large (William Orbit - Barber's Adagio For Strings, CRW - I Feel Love, Mauro Picotto - Lizard, Ayla - Ayla ++)
Smilet I yet (Norwegian documentary about 3 girls and their experience with drugs/clubbing. Has a couple of scenes with footage from norwegian parties.)
xXx (Got a rave scene with Orbital playing)

swordfish with jon travolta, oakey made the soundtrack.

and as for tiesto..... a coke ad.

i saw this movie right after a real rave

Posted by Flec on Jan-07-2004 02:33:

go is not a fucking rave movie, it just happens to have a rave scene

as for groove its one of my favorite movies, why?

SIMPLE, it makes me FEEL like im actually at the party, which is the next best thing to acutally being there

this isnt a movie where ppl go to a rave, or where there is a rave scene

the whole movie IS THE RAVE, thats right, the whole movie takes place at the rave... it is an independant film and does an amazing job at showing how the rave scene was

amazing music throughout the whole movie

looking at it from a movie buffs perspective it owuld not rate to highly but who cares, your either feeling the vibe or not when u see this, its not about the technical aspects

In Groove, The Rave finishes at about 6AM with the sun rising over the warehouse, and John Digweed spinning "Heaven Scent" - pretty cool!
That was the first time i heard that track, and i fell in love with it.

I saw Groove a couple of years ago on TV when i was just starting to like EDM. It was a good film in my opinion.

The focus of the film is the sound and the visual impact of the rave. The main aim of the film is to capture the rave experience, and i think that it succeeds in this.

The soundtrack is very good......

There is some character development in the film. The protagonist goes to his first rave with his brother, and his whole outlook on life changes from that one night.

Also a couple of other main characters experience some development.

Overall, i give Groove a high rating. I suggest you rent it before you buy it, as it is not for everyone.
