CD Decks
Hi guys, i want help, . . . . again
Atm i am saving for a cd deck, n i have a few in mind, just wanting some advice, experience etc please!
Dont even mention CDJ-1000's cause i am not spending that much on one for Home use and stuff, its just out of my league.
But then i want full effects, looping, scratching! Hence not stuff like CDJ-100's.
Basically I was looking at American Audio Pro-Scratch 2
(http://www.americandj.com/product.a...&cat=CD_Players)
or the Numarks. Any help please??
hey matt,
i have no exp with any other cd decks other than pioneers.
try look at the CDJ-800's or are they to pricey? but ive been using CDJ-100's at home do the job perfectly, some ppl complain about them saying they are hard o use but thats BS... if u learn on the 100's then u will be able to use any cdj out there.
thats my 2 cents, doesnt really help hehe sorry

I've used the CDJ-800 for a bit..
They're pretty good. Not as many features as the 1000s, but I don't think anyone uses the extra features.
If u can afford them then that's what I would get.
Should be able to get a good second hand pair for $800 each.
your profile says ur in sydney, so head over to lightsounds. They had a pack with 2 cdj800s and the top of the line pioneer mixer (dont ask me the model number, ive gone blank) for $3800. Not a bad saving.
I spent a touch over a grand on my first setup, it consists of a pair of American Audio (/American DJ) PRO-DJ2's and a Behringer DJX400 (rip off of the similarly named pioneer model). They basically have more features than the pioneer cdj100's but for a lot less. I got the decks ex-demo and the mixer brand new, but at a discount. The longevity of the american audio/dj stuff is probably nowhere near that of the pioneer, but that said ur not paying anywhere near the price.
If you like the Pro Scratch 2s, also look at the PSX's and have a little poke around and you might find some new Pro scratch 1s. The good thing too, lightsounds hires out the pro scratches, so you can often strike a deal with them so that if you hire a set mid week for a night or 2, they might be able to give you a pretty good discount when it comes to purchasing.
Whatever you do get, just try to use them for a few hours first.
Something to consider too, a lot of clubs use the pioneer cdj's, so its worth familiarising yourself with them at least.
Finding pioneer cdj800's second hand may be difficult though.
I've got a couple of 100's and they've got 3 effects: "jet", "zip" and "wah". Pretty basic but useful nonetheless.
Well being an avid user of the 100's myself, i don's see anthing wrong with them
get the100's...
But that's just my biased opinion
what effects are you looking for? some of the new cd decks have dozens of wierd and wonderful effects, but will you really use them? might be better getting seperate fx kit.
if you really want to scratch, you're going to have to look in the high end of the market. scratch emulation like on my cmx3000 works fine for the occasional messing around, but is nowhere near enough if you want to scratch seriously. loops are great to have once you figure how/when to use them.
i'd look for the cdj800, quite a bit lessthan the 1000, or the dns-3000. not cheap, but from the list of requirements you gave cheap decks won't cut it.
get 100s and an effects pad?
like a kaos pad or something.

CDJ-800 over here
As it's always said when buying gear, save up longer and get the stuff the clubs use as it's the standard. Also the pioneer quality/rep in the industry is better then the AA.

Matt,
I am selling my CDJ's currently. They are due to be listed in 3D world classifieds this week. I am selling:
2 American DJ Pro 3 single CD players, 1 American DJ QD3 mixer, fully road cased. They cost $1450 new. I'm selling it for $1150 perfect condition.
Personally I have used all the following CD players:
Pioneer CDJ 1000
Pioneer CDJ 800
Pioneer CDJ 500
Pioneer CDJ 100
Pioneer CMX 3000
Dennon D4000
Dennon 1800
Dennon 2600
Dennon 2100
American DJ Pro 3
American DJ Pro Scratch 2
^^^
Honestly everyone who knows me knows that my favourtie CDJ's are the American DJ Pro series (Cameron, Liquid M e.t.c.).
The Pro 3's are awesome CDJ's I have played out on them many many times and I highly recommend them. Even if you don't buy mine they are still a great CD player. By the way they are the bigger brother (feature wise) of the American DJ Pro CD player that lightsounds are selling.
Also under NO circumstance by Numarks I have had numerous pieces of Numark gear go up in smoke on me (literally).
I have been a long running member of www.clubdjzone.com and www.djzone.com do a search through the equipment boards on these sites for user feedback on the equipment.
Finally if you'd like to have a chat about specific CD players i.e. what features some have that others don't. What can be a pain to use and what can be easy to use pm me and we can have a chat?

As chookie said, the CDJ-1000Mk1 we have is one nice beast
Basically, the ones I'd check out if you're headed toward the mid-to-high range decks are
Pioneer CDJ-1000
Pioneer CDJ-800
Denon 5000
Denon 3000
If you're after something that's portable, Pioneer CMX-3000.
With effects, really, it's so much nicer to have them in the mixer, or even better a seperate unit.
We actually have at the moment:
1xPioneer CDJ-1000Mk1
2xTechnics 1210Mk3d
1xPioneer DJM-600
1xPioneer EFX-500
As a setup, it's really, really nice to play on, and it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect in the majority of clubs these days.
Go to lightsounds, muck with all of them
or even come around here some time to muck with with the above
Definately under NO CIRCUMSTANCES buy before you've at least tried all the above to see what /you/ prefer.

Take a cd and record along and have a lil play in the shop...(or maybe 2cd's....basically mix in the shop and get the feel of it).

If the feel is totally different you're going to be rooted playing on other CDJ's [I haven't seen a club in sydney that has a periment CDJ that's NOT a Pioneer] aren't you? And you can't exactly take your own dex 2 every club you play at.... --djway_interested |
I just got a pair of 1000mk2's but i spent a year and a bit learning on cdj100's and found them excellent.
Easy to use and a good stepping stone to 1000's. They do everything you would need of a basic cdj and are well made and never had a problem with them. They play cdr's and i think are the best beginner cdj. Also it seems most clubs now have 1000's and if you play on a 100 it's not that diffrent in how ot works basically. (At least i haven't had too many problems learning 1000's)

OOOOO on further reading this CD player is mad!
It plays off SD cards! how good is that, just carry around a memory stick
ANyways i would ad this into consideration, wicked stuff.
dmp555 is very expensive for the features you get. unless you really really need multimdeia playback, it's not worth it. And it scratches like the cmx, not the cdj's.
ok just got back from Virgin megastore.
its reduced from $2099 - $1099!!! fark if i had the money i would get one for sure!
