Codec Needed
I need a codec so that I can play .mpeg files in Windows Media Player. When I try to play them I get a popup that sais "this pin cannot use the supplified media type". Annd all I hear is music playing until I close the popup, so any-1 know if I might need a codec to fix this problem? Thanks

u don`t need codec to play MPEG's
i take it u have tryed other players, i thought .mpeg would play in real player, or real jukebox, but not sure, could give it a try

that is a codec u might not have
check here:
control panel
multimedia
devices tab
video compression codecs
check there to see if u have MPEG-4 Video codec
yep, it sais Mpeg - 4 High Speed Compressor, is that the 1? There is also a nAVI Vx3 Mpeg - 4 Codec. What do I need to do?

Jay D, if u Download the Elecard Player Swamper has on the Music Videos section of this site that should enable u to play Most video formats
I use it now instead of Windows media Player.
I find it very good and a nicer interface
it will throw up an error when u open a file but just click OK and it plays the files fine
thats files like Avi Mpeg1 Mpeg 2 Mpeg 4 DivX etc
However i can Upload a Mpeg 4 / Div X codec installer to my website if u wish to use that instead with Windows media Player.
any of the above routes should cure your problems
Just out of interest what OS u using ?
Win 95
Win 98
Win 98 SE
Win ME
Win 2000
Win Nt4
???
Will the codec that you will upload probably permit me to use Windows Media Player, if so pleease upload
. I have used the player on he music vids page, although I still would like to use Windows Media Player. I am using 98
.
**Off Topic, Neo u have Vaiio - Rapture (Deep Dish Remix) the whole thing or the cut like I have?**
Ok Jay D i think i know what your problem is now . .
but i need to ask 1 more question b4 i know for sure that is your problem
Do U have both Windows Media Player 7 and the Elecard Player from this site both installed at the moment ?
** off topic reply ** Yes red and I both have the full version of Vaiio - Rapture (Deep dish Remix)
It's in one of our lockers, i will find out which one and give u the details in PM )
if you want those mpeg4 codecs you need WMP 7 or higher i think. Also check and make sure you have the DivX codec. You can get the DivX codec from www.divx.com
Yep, I have both installed on my system. After Windows Media Player 7 was giving me these problems, I installed Elecard. So the problem was still occuring even before I installed Elecard Player. So do you know?
**Off Topic Again
, Please PM me with detail if you find
**
Hmmm i got the same problems that u have now after i installed the elecard player on my system
i used to use WMP 7 all the time and it worked fine
but i did have all the codecs installed
then i installed elecard player and WMP7 started giving me the errors u describe
that was cos elecard uses a variant on the DivX and Mpeg4 codecs making WMP7 unuseable
so i got rid of WMP7 and only use elecard now
WMP7 will not work properly with elecard installed !
uninstalling elecard does not help cos it changes the codecs and WMP7 still can not use them
even reinstalling WMP7 does not help
the only way to get WMP7 fully functioning after elecard has been installed is a format of the Hard drive and reinstall Windows etc so u can install fresh codecs
my advice is to just use Elecard player now until u do a re format of your hard drive
i will upload the DivX and Mpeg 4 codecs to my website for u and u just need to run the exe file and elecard will play all formats.
i will let u know the addy when i uploaded it
**off topic reply. . i will PM u with the locker details **
Shit!
Yea, now I know what happend. This is a BIG dissapointment, Swamper should put a warning up on the music page about this! Some people wouldnt like to use Elecard instead of Windows Media Player like myself. This really sucks big time. Thanks a mil for your help Nero, you are alwayz of a help and you know your shit
. I hope Swamper reads this so that he can make some changes.
What happend was that after Swamper put those vids with .m2v siht up, I installed elecard so that I could be able to watch them because the codec wasnt working. Now it caused more problems than anything.
If I install Windows ME will it fix this problem and reinstall the codecs needed for Windows Media Player>?
**Off Topic, Thanks
**
a format of the hard drive and a reinstall of windows 98 or Win Me will do wonders for your system, not only in helping with WMP probs but for others too
It's amazing how many Misc files end up on your system slowing it down and affecting its performance
(Remember a format of your hard drive will lose all the data u have on your PC, so back up files u want to keep first and stuff like passwords, logins, and email addys u want to keep)
I still prefer Win 98 to Win ME but either are fine
then reinstall WMP7 and then install the codecs
u can get a M2V codec for WMP7 as well
like i said i will post the codecs on my site in a little while and give u the DL addys
asd
i recomend you to NOT install win ME
install win2k (if you got, or know someone who can give it to you)
its much better than the rest of the windows o/s
but its up to you
decide from what you use ur computer for
if you play lots of games -> install win98 s.e.
only a workstation and mp3 usage -> windows
to fix your problem you could maybe delete the file extension in windows, and then reopen the file, and choose wmp7 as the proggy which will open the files
open a new window ---> view ---> folder options ---> file types --->find the format the other player converts the files too ---> choose delete ---> then open a the file ---> open in the proggy u want to use
im not sure if this is working properly in this case, but i have solved lots of problems with files opening in other proggys like this
Greetz
STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't format, delete or reinstall anything. If it is an M2V file it is in VCD format. I have a player that will play that file I also have a Codec that will make sure u never have a problem with Videos EVER AGAIN. SERIOUS
