I just wrote "copycat" to get your attn but is it just me? After oakenfold, tiesto, etc hammered motorcycle's as the rush comes then PvD jumped on the track.....same thing with Holden's Nothing (93 returning mix) Lately, he's been playing out andain's beautiful things (unplugged mix)??? I mean...dont get me wrong, im a fan of PvD but it seems like he is late on things...

Posted by AndskiSpeed on Jan-07-2004 16:39:

Yea he does seem to get in on things a little late

Posted by keithos27 on Jan-07-2004 16:43:

that's because he's too busy with his own reworks? interesting observation though... haven't really noticed. i've herad him dropping motorcycle for a while though...

but hey, tiesto is freaking dropping nalin & kane's "open your eyes" like 4 years after oakey did.... they're just recycling choons... nothing wrong with that, in my eyes at least.

Something un-interesting then might seem much more interesting now.

Ok what about the time he's early on things to? POS - Rembember. He was playing that in August 2002. Then every other gimp gets ahold of it in early 2003. Exact same went for GTR - Mistral. He played that in august 2002, and then finally the others get ahold of it in 2003.

What about the whole story with Second Sun. If he hadn't recognised their huge potential they probably wouldn't be where they are today.

And what about Agnelli & Nelson - Nothing. Apart from Matt Hardwick, noone was playing this other than PvD for a very long time. I could go on a on but u get the point. He might have been a little late with a coulple of tracks but 99% of the time he is ahead of everyone, and i mean everyone at spotting new talent.

Blah pvd

Adding to Mikey, I bring examples:

Nitromethane - Time to Die (Seraque Mix) -- PvD played at Nature 02.08.2002 months before Armin played on ASOT 63 22.05.2003. In fact Armin was surprised by how fast the TA chatters at #armind IDed that track b/c he thought it just came out.

PVD player ATRC in February at ARC in NYC. I dont have time to look at previous tracklists but I would assume that this wasn the first time he played it.

Since ATRC it was first played in mid-december, February is not late at all. And, again, I am assuming he played this before I saw him at Roxy.

Uh.. and where exactly are they?
They did 1 mediocre tune and then... nothing.

? every single one of their releases has been great. i can't wait to hear about a possible album.
From what i've gathered from PVD interviews, Second Sun made an unreleased version of Empire. They sent it to Tiesto, he liked it. They sent it to PVD and he enjoyed it as well. However, it was made using very limited technology, so it sounded very poor, although the tune itself was great. So PVD picked up Second Sun and gave them a bunch of professional equipment to redo Empire. It was a hit, PVD signed them, and now they're on top.
although i have really lost my taste for PVD's own music, he can spot talent from miles away

Posted by gazsmith666 on Jan-07-2004 19:24:

a big point that a lot of people are not making is that a dj can only play a tune if they have been given/sent/or managed to obtain it.

if i am correct, with gtr mistral, it was sent out to pvd a lot earlier than when it was sent to armin and tiesto, so course it was going to look like pvd was onto it first.

its the same with loads of other tunes, a lot of the top dj's sort each other out with new material, some may only give out a couple of copies, so unless a tune was distributed at the same time to everyone, there will always be people who get to spin new tunes first.

Posted by Dazdaking on Jan-07-2004 19:25:

Super 8 - Alba is another example, he dropped this ages ago, he was the only person to have the CDR until armin got his grubby little mits on it recently....

I have a feeling I'm repeating myself but I'll say it yet again:

Why the fuck does DJ'ing need to be a competition? Can't you just enjoy the sets without seeing who spun what first?

Is a tune not good if it's older than 2 weeks or the DJ wasn't the first one to play it?

To even care about something like this is just sad...

Confirmed:
Second Sun - Empire
Second Sun - The Answer
Second Sun - Changes
Second Sun - Crush
Second Sun - Rock the West Side

Unconfirmed:
MMDC - No More Rain (Second Sun Mix)

Only Empire and Answer are released. Rock the West Side is on Vandit Promo. And you know the story with Crush.

ASOT 63 would have been in 2002. So, Armin played it 22.05.2002, making it 2 1/2 months before PvD played it.

and by god, i wish they WOULDN'T be playing that...

gives me the creeps, that tune.

and as for pvd, i'm glad to see him actually change his playlist... update it with several 'new' tracks...

Got the months mixed up. Nature One 2002 was in Feburary.

heh. no. it was august 3rd, 2002! and asot 63 was 9/12/2002 :P

Posted by Scottaculous on Jan-08-2004 18:08:

Sorry again. I blame Armin's website. They dated ASOT 63 at "22/05/2003" but it's really suppose to be "Sept 12 2002".
