What should be the legal drinking age?

Feel free to comment on your choice.

19-20, you really shouldn't be drinking before 21 or so because your liver is still developing, but since nobody's gonna listen, might as well make the drinking age a few years lower than the recommended age. Too low and you get a society of retards, too high and you get a society of lawbreakers.

18 should definitely be the legal drinking age. I think that the US 21 thing sucks cock big time. US is probably the only country with such high agelimit. Many european countries have very low limits. Germany for example, i believe it is like 15 or 16. What suprises me is that countries that have low or almost no drinking limits, have very little youth drinking. Many youngsters buy it just because it is so "illegal", its like the half of the fun. In finland we have 18, wich i think is great. (Since i am 2 months from turning). I personally feel that it will not be as fun to buy beer anymore as it used to be. Now, i know this is typical youngster-talk, but somehow i really can't se a reason why it should be higher than 18.

18 beer, 21 hard stuff. I remember back in the day when they changed the beer limit to 18 about 2-3 weeks before I turned 18. When I was 18 I went to the local grocery to legally buy a six pack and the clerk told me I was too young. We had to get the store manager and tell the clerk I was legal so I could buy the beer! That was wild, but I could also drive into Washington, D.C. and get hard liquor at 18 as well. Anyhow, the hard stuff is too hard for testosterone ravaged punks and there needs to be a "buffer" period between learning to drink beer and the hard stuff. I had to learn the hard way...

I've been drinking nearly every weekend since my 14th birthday, ah the state i used to get in. now my liver has got used to it and accepts more alchohol than your average non-drinker, so it's all good.

there shouldn't be a legal age to drink, but there should be to buy it.

18 for beer...20 liquor. Since lowering the drinking age is NEVER going to happen in the U.S., there have been proposals by doctors and lobbyist groups for ADULTS between 18-20 to have "drinking permits".

The catch behind these permits is if your caught drinking & driving or doing something really stupid, it is revoked and you'll have to wait until your 21 to drink again.

18 is the correct age, here a few years ago (not more than 3 years ago) was 16 for alcohol and also for cigarrettes.

65, because none of you youngsters can be trusted sober let alone with booze in your system. why, back in my day we didnt have beer or hard liquor at all. we used to go out and grab some listerine, mix it with pepto bismol and a few benadryls, add a slice of lime for flavor and there ya have it. throw in a 1/4 ounce of pcp for shits and giggles.

No matter what we change the legal drinking age to, there's always going to be those immature grade 9's that go out and get wasted. I think it's up to people to decide whether they are ready or not...

Dunno

15/16
I come from a country where there is NO legal drinking age. And guess what? There is no people making fools out of themselves after they hit 19 (throwing up at clubs, etc.). The more you wait for something as -NOT special- as drinking, the more disappointed you're gonna be. (On the other hand, I haven't counted the drunkards, so I cannot compare... but who is meant to drink himself/herself to death, he/she will do it, matterless of the legal drinking age.)
I think there should be a more relaxed approach, and LESS attention and emphasis by media on the whole thing (and smoking, etc.)... this way they're only making the kids more anxious and worried...

a.

15-16 is okay. in germany you are allowed to drink alcohol which has an alcohol level until 10% when you reach the age of 16 and when you are 18 you can drink what you want, i think this is a good solution.

In Poland you may drink legally being 18 years of age. It's the best legal drinking age IMO, although I have to admit that I got drunk for the 1st time when I was 15. 21 is way too late IMO whereas legalizing drunking under the age of 18 seems demoralizing for the youths. They still do it but IMO legalization would make them doing it much more commonly.

18... if you can get married, die for your country, vote in elections and live on your own i think you should be able to drink.

if you got married at 18 you couldn't even sip champagne at your own wedding in the us. how dumb is that?

Very dumb - and hard to believe such a law could actually be upheld

i think the age should be 16, i mean most kids get drunk at that age any way i dont believe making it legal will result in floods of sixteen year olds going to the off licence to get alcohol. Those who dont drink at 16, wont go out and drink and it wont really affect those that do, they will continue as normal.

I really dont think it'll result in some kind of yob culture.

how it is already, 18

Posted by mentalbarter on Jan-18-2004 00:25:

its whatever it is now
clearly the age limits have been thought about

many european countries dont have drinking-ages / dont enforce them. as countres such as france / italy drink wine with most meals.

thing is though, a lot of the youth dont drink at all!
i was in Italy in '99 and all the young ppl were much more concerned with their mopeds and wee shitty cars

Posted by ludeboy12 on Jan-28-2004 22:24:

prolly 18 everywhere except in america i would say keep it at 21....

damn kids here to too fucking immature for the most part to drink halfway responsibly

In the US it's 21 - I think it should be like cigeretts where you can smoke but can't buy them until your 18 - you shold be able to drink once you're 18 but you shouldn't be able to buy it until your 21 - in the US if 18 year old's were allowed to buy alchohol there would be A LOT more drunk driving..

Posted by skytrancegirl on Feb-10-2004 22:35:

none!! everyone should be allowed to drink!!

Posted by sleepydragon on Feb-10-2004 22:54:

Posted by rounder19 on Feb-11-2004 04:48:
