Trance is the greatest shit on planet earth, but....

There is sooooooooo much crap out there.

No wonder there are so many people (not electronic people (some)) out there who are like

"you like trance" pfft

"trance sucks"

I understand them cause 90% of it is pure SHYTE!

in fact I would back a movement to re-define trance or even (dare I say) re name this awesome music, and leave the euro shit behind.

I would prefer the first option!!!

Trance is Trance and always has been - but because it sounds frighteningly similar to A) gino beats B) euro pop C) Dance D) vocal something or other etc.

it all bears the same genre name!

I downloaded 523 "trance" samples from juno.co.uk

literally 25 of them were considerably good 25 were decent and 473 were all created by a bunch of no talent ass clowns!!

have I become jaded somehow, and unable to find the perfect music for me? Must I now learn to create music that fits my ear taste?

These 473 bull shit tracks were definitely made by amateurs. I just wonder how they could all be sponsored by a label, pressed, and distributed by Juno.!!!!????!!!!??? HELLO!!?

Beautiful melodies with beautiful sounds with roller coaster flow and some intricacies - is this too much to ask?

Regardless - a huge amount of those 473 "trance" tracks would never be classified as real trance - and the rest, was all just euro pop and dance.

Anyway there�s my rant for the day. If that crap is trance - then trance does suck. and if that�s the case, what the hell is the music I like called?

Just one question. If you dislike trance this much why are you a trance DJ?

Isn't this the usual case anyway? Doesn't matter what genre. Most of it isn't good. That's what makes the 25 hits even more special.

part of being a DJ is having a good solid source for GOOD trance. Otherwise ur not there to educate the ppl, ur there to play in what ur opinion is good music. IF someone makes fun of u cuz their interpetation of trance is different, don't bother being offended really. They don't know any better so their judgement is based on what they see.

their selection of trance is mostly euro.
try other shops.

Maybe it's time for you to redefine your genre !!!

Start looking outside of trance maybe

See what other king of music can give you goosebumps and try incorporating them trought your sets


Btw ... as for trance ... it's like that since some big dj became overly popular ( I.e. Pvd and Oakie ) and that's exactly the reason why Sasha and Digweed started playing prog !!

i dont think you should worry about finding your music... it will find you.

and as for labelling trance as trance... you have to remember that not everyone is like us and cares so much about it to know the difference between epic trance psytrance techtrance etc.. some ppl just hear a synthy melody, 4/4 beat thats very energetic and uplifting and just like to label it as trance or techno.. its always been like this and always will be like this.. even i have a hard time defining what type of techno is which these days cause theres just so much out there.. i just wana let music be music. This whole this is trance that is euro this is techno and that is prog... its dividing us, creating "musical burriers" between us... lets all just reunite and enjoy music as music.

I have to agree. Trance seems to be the genre with the most crap in it - and I think that tends to be because of the endless remixes of commercial songs, and the way people play stuff on the radio and call it "Trance."

As others have mentioned - look for music in other genres. I never ever peruse the trance section in record stores or online, but I have quite a few records that tech-heads would probably classify as trancey. Hell, I would classify them as trance(y) - but I found them all in the techno bins.

i miss songs like souvenir de chine, and the whole 98/99 kind of trance. its just no good anymore.

I think Avro is right... there's so much crap out there. But it doesn't apply only to trance.

I am in COMPLETE agreement. Its embarassing to say I listen to trance, it really is. A marginal 1% is listenable and the rest is simply blasphemous. The frustrating part is that good trance isn't a fluke - it just gets lost in all the noise from shit producers. Find the people who you feel have solid taste in the music and then help each other out to hone in on the quality tracks and leave the rest of the cheddar behind you!

epic is dead.....its all about armin/tiesto and g & d's style now, sad really as most of that shit is so boring and over-rated :/

im with you on that. the only trance track that i like (or 'still' like) from 2003 was Fictivision vs C-Quence - Symbols...

progressive trance is still pretty good, but i've really moved on to prog house and breaks...

it just seems like trance is being produced in a structured fashion...it's just all sounding the same

Well I think you are missing the whole point to this thread

I personally think the quality of trance is getting better but there is way too much stuff classified as trance these days.

I was listening to euro on 103.5 and I don't like that stuff, but I did hear some fairly quality productions.

but if you remove the vocals you will have trance. And under those vocals is really cheesy up beat bouncy dance. - sure its fun, but its euro pop or dance. Trance is more progressive and serious IMO.

I'm sure that all other styles of music have the same debates. My brother is a hip hopper and hes going on about how its not underground any more etc. sounds like so many trance topics too

all genres have its good and bad - but proportionally I think trance has mostly bad - and its probably because half of it isnt really trance, but dance.

In that case... I really love my melodically-progressive-uplifting-yet-mellow-but-sometimes-catchy-but-not-too-catchy-and-quite-epic-sounding-4/4-beat music.....

Dont get me wrong there is still some excellent stuff out there, and 2003 was particularly good for trance � but it just bugs me how so much music can be bunched into one genre name.

Its like calling all music with a guitar rock and roll, and not sub categorizing it. I do realize trance has about 5-9 sub genres but its just getting annoying that when you look for trance you get tonnes of other stuff that hasn't been properly categorized.

As far as looking outside of my genre, I do like some other stuff (like ambient, breakbeat trance, melodic nunrg, hardcore, nrg trance trancecore etc), but I am bonkers only for trance and will not leave this style .

I guess that the work part about being a DJ - its searching for the 'good stuff' and presenting it to listeners. But lately you search for hours to find a DECENT track, let alone a keeper.

SO just when I'm in the midst of yapping about how trance is not doing it for me recently I come across one of those tracks that throws you back in your seat and reminds you why you love trance so much.

I advise all of you to check out "Robert Nickson - Spiral" This is a really beautiful - well produced - epic track

anyway, listening to trance solid since 92 I am not just going to change my style now. If I dont like I dont listen.

as j_spot said juno is just one shop, this is true, I keep this in mind. But even physical record shops need a lesson in trance...

well if you look at every genre there is stuff that sux in every one of them.

I use to listen to Trance a lot but I stopped for a year and went to prog house and breaks - so much more interesting and a lot less cheese.

it seems that trance is having a resurgence. It looks like new producers are putting energy back into the sound. Who would have though of "breakish" trance or "housey" trance as being trance sounds There are a lot of good trance toons right now so it makes me think we're at the start of a new cycle again.

I CAN'T STAND IT when people call trance or other EDM techno. Techno is a distinct EDM genre. It's like calling Hip Hop rock and roll. Augh!
