sorry bout the ranting but im finding of late that my eyes are hurting when i go infront of my computer screen to browse the forums. anyone else find this?

what's the recommened max period you should spend in front of the computer? Is there any way to prevent my eyes from feeling this way?

hell, you're probably just not used to it enough.

at the rate i'm going, i'll be totally blind by the time i'm 30.

i spend quite a lot of time in front of the monitor and i find that the monitor itself could be a cause of pain.

i don't know the recommended amount (probably like hour / day - something ridiculous) but i can tell you what you can do with the monitor.

first of all, fiddle with the brightness / contrast settings to see if that helps. could also be the color settings. now, if you're sitting too far or too close, your eyes will be affected too. another thing i heard somewhere and also found to be useful, is that if you tilt the screen downwards a little bit, that should be easier on the eyes (remember, the screen should still be on your eye level).

Get an LCD monitor if you don't have one already. Your eyes will thank you

Try a monitor filter like this one if it really bothers you. I spend most every day in front of a screen, and I have no problem with close in vision, but started losing far vision at about 40. Maybe it was just old age, but who knows....

I think your eyes hurt when you look at a monitor for ages, because of the refresh rates or something, so try to increase the refresh rate of your monitor, or buy a TFT flat screen, because they dont flicker at all.
