Who's into PsyTrance?

I'm just curious to see if many TA's are PsyTrance fans. Started off with cheesy trance myself, then moved into uplifting trance, then into prog and other house genres. I've slowly been expanding my tastes and exposure further. In particular, PsyTrance has grown on me over the last year or so to the point that I could call it possibly my favourite genre at this point. I love the complexity, much less predictable than many other genres and so much variety within it. Not to mention that PsyTrance events are by far cooler events, much less influenced by the commercialization of he scene. For instance, the BLA party (blacklightactivists.ca) I went to for NYE was the most friendly vibe I've seen at any party in a long time.

So, I'm wondering if many others are into Psy out there?

Its my kind of thing...
If you're in the Toronto area and want to tap into the psychedelic underground around here, be sure to check out this board -> http://forums.ektoplazm.com/

You might hear about the biggest events but some of the finest are often the outdoor events around the city (some even happen in wintertime!!)... if you haven't experienced psychedelic trance in the Yurt you're really missing out (FYI: the Yurt is a heated tent-type structure that has been up for many parties this past year, and they're always a blast... there is NO reason to accept defeat in the face of the elements here in Canada!) ...

Also there are FIVE free events in the next two weeks featuring psychedelic trance, mostly down at the Zen Lounge (now the Funhaus)... so if you haven't tried it yet, now is the time to explore. I suggest either of the Saturday-night events (BLA/DSF/Eloko or J1F).

Peace.

Love psy/goa! I don't get out to those events much 'cause I don't know many people in that scene, but I'm always up for it.

You'll find some killer goa here too:

excellent stuff, plus they always list the song that's playing too.

Ok knock it off......I am a DJ as well and know how important and vital it is to promote one's self and events but there is a proper and RESPECTFUL way of doing this....like contacting the board admin and asking what they will allow.

This is not a public waste bin for anyone to throw their e-flyers onto without consent.

Every post I've seen from you has been basically only about your night at Pulse. This is a "community" forum and people here are intellegent enough to know when someone is only on here for their own interests. I wander why no one is going to XXXXXX nightclub? If you show no respect for the people you are trying to win over... chances are they will not be inclined to support you.

Granted, many newbie's to forum's and such do not understand "Board Edicate" and should be forgiven and nicely informed as to the rules however, being a DJ and (I guess) promoter for your club, I'd say you are familiar enough and should know better.

ps - This is not a rant so much as strong advice as I'd like to see new talent and venues make a name for themselves including yours but reconsider your motives and actions.....cool? Cool

As I said before hundreds of times, I am into every single genre of electronica with exceptions of the post 1999-eurodance crap and I can only take rave and drum n bass music in small doses.

I got lots of goa/psy stuff, I primarily listen to older stuff, 1989-1999 era, artists like Man With No Name, Astral Projection, Infinity Project, X-Dream, Yahel, Total Eclipse, Prana, Infected Mushroom to name a few big names ...

Just got back from Goa...

Lately I've really gotten into the hard dance/trance stuff but I've just returned from 3 weeks in Goa and I have to say that it was unreal. I had heard the parties were legendary but I wasn't prepared for it at all.

The best party we went to was on X-Mas Eve.
http://www.sylvainw.com/pics/travel..._eve/index.html

Here's the DJ lineup. Yes, that's right, it spans 36 HOURS (!!!) of non-stop wicked music.
http://www.sylvainw.com/pics/travel...s/IMG_0728.html

We got there at 22:30 on X-Mas Eve and left at 14:00 on X-Mas Day to go back to the beach and get some rest. Here are links to 2 videos that I took on X-Mas morning. Sorry for the large downloads (47 and 25 Megs) but I don't have the software to convert them.

http://www.sylvainw.com/other/goa_vids/MVI_0760.AVI

If anybody can ID the first track (MVI_0761.AVI) it would be greatly appreciated as it's one of my favorite ones at the moment and I have no idea who it's by.

Hope everyone is having a good 2004 so far.

Cheers,
Sylvain

Good to see there's at least some interest in Psy\Goa!

basilisk, thanks for the tips. I'd love to check out some of the outdoor events you talk about. Only ones I've been to in the past are BLA events (other than OM and Harvest Festival). Winter outdoor Psy event sounds great!

Diginut, don't let not knowing people stop you from checking out these great events. You're welcome to join me and my crew and you'd be surprised how easy it is to meet people as the vibe is usually awesome.

Drewfactor, I've been to a few DarkRaves and quite like them. The last one I went to in November surprised me though, with Deko-ze spinning. He was great though (as always) and I guess the Dark Rave is trying to expand away from just Psy.

Sylvainw, all I can say is WOW! I'd heard great things about goa and your post has confirmed it all. The pics look great, but the avi links don't seem to work...I have to make my way to goa sometime!

As for people responding to the spammer, by replying in this thread just for that purpose, you're contributing to the problem. I was irritated too, but I decided to ignore him. You should have probably PM'd him or just asked the administrator to delete his post\warn\ban him.

Dohhh... I just tried them again and they seem to work. Have you tried right-clicking and "Save Target As..." ??

Hope that works...

I'm pretty much 100% psy nowadays... explains why I don't post so much here anymore!

Agreed, although I've noticed that, as in every other genre, there are patterns and cliched sound elements etc., that you start picking out all the time. Also, as with every other genre, it gets harder and harder to find *good* psy the more you listen. I'm getting more into the prog/minimalist-psy stuff now, though I used to be a full-on/goa addict. Kinda like my trance progression from uplifting->prog, before getting into psy. So does this mean I'm getting into techno soon, or something??

Werd. There are also the spiritual/drug influences that go hand-in-hand with the genre. Which can sometimes be cheesy/annoying but overall quite refreshing, especially in our society of mass consumerism and materialism.

I really like Psy and wouldn't mind spinning some too, but finding new vinyl for that genre is extremely difficult.

Ok, we all know you're trying very hard for ppl to show up at Pulse, but you shouldn't spam in as much threads as possible or the mods will ban you. Then you won't be able post at all.

Most of the releases are CD's. Check these shops out for a good selection:
