Lightbulb ***SoulSeek au.ta Room***

if you dont already know what soulseek is, goto
http://www.slsknet.org and download

i've created a room in soul seek where we can all see who's got what and trade tunes/sets. to join rightclick where all the room names are on the right, select create room and in the box enter "au.ta"

hope to see some faces in there soon

Posted by escee on Jan-10-2004 09:40:

everyone else should join.

Posted by tathi on Jan-11-2004 06:52:

i'll join

though i might be stingy with my uploads this month until i start telstra's unlimited plan next month

Posted by OLi_A on Jan-11-2004 07:18:

isnt this kind of talk forbidden?

Posted by one.tjc on Jan-11-2004 07:58:

if they can talk about making IRC channels and DC++ hubs... why cant we talk about creating a soulseek chat room...?

Posted by webmeister on Jan-11-2004 10:31:

You'll need to rename it, since TA doesn't support filesharing.

As long as it's something that isn't associated with TA it's fine.

Good point...

Posted by webmeister on Jan-12-2004 02:59:

If you want to ask about DC hubs, go to a DC forum.
If you want to talk about IRC channels, go to an IRC forum.

Ill idle in there as soon as you work out what the channel name is, who says the ta in au.ta soulseek channel stands for trance addict anyway ?? =)

The reason why TA discourages discussion about filesharing is because Swamper does not wish to incriminate himself in illegal activities and have the site shut down. Let alone the fines he would incur.

Thus if you wish to have a file sharing room and invite us into it; do so. But don't name it a TA room if it is not endorsed by Swamper.

How would you like it if you got in shit because someone named a room NickNack's Copyright Infringement Room?

End of story.

NB. I know this is going far but it is possible, so just avoid it. Also if you wish to use Swampers forum, obey by his rules, which by joining up you agreed to comply with or be banned.

Sorry if I'm sounding harsh, just trying to get the point across.

Posted by nicknack on Jan-12-2004 13:53:

firstly Hybrid what proof would they have that it was me that created the room, secondly if it was just free to air sets recorded that were being swapped there would be no copyright infringement at all.

Posted by OLi_A on Jan-12-2004 16:03:

better yet we can all join a single mothers yahoo group and curse that bastard who left as soon as i got fat.......ummm

1. If it's called the AUTA room, it's obviously related to TA. We are one of the biggest music-related websites on the net, and attract a lot of attention.

2. As far as I'm aware, the legality of live sets is still dubious at best - simply saying that it's only sets being traded isn't really a good enough defence.

talking about the problem not the solution guys

i think what nicknack is trying to get at is that that example would be nncir, its ambiguous and hard to think anyone would draw a connection, but i understand that the fat cats in the RIAA would not take ambiguity as an excuse, no matter how benign :/

i've always wondered about that, if you rebroadcast a set, lets say at a small party / club, would this be illegal in the eyes of the artist / radio station etc?

as far as i know you are breaching the copyright of the radio station or something, so its still illegal. i think radio 1 kicked up a fuss about it or something a while ago but im not sure.

Note people, saying "oh, but noone would figure out that au.TA means the australian TA forum" would not be defensible.

TA is well known. The announcement was made in public on a thread in the au.TA forum. That's going to be pretty convincing to any judge that it's linked with TA.

I don't know for sure that it *is* illegal, but I don't know of anything that says that it isn't....

Sort of like UFOs, not being able to prove their existence doesn't mean they don't exist, and vice-versa.

... i'm not sure how you got australian trance addict out of au.ta... because everyone knows that the aussie tennis authority is quite popular on soulseek... [used to be called the aussie rugby world cup auth.. but we changed it for all the obvious reasons.. ]

anyways, i've not seen too many like minded tennis fans on there lately

Swamper gives a shit, given that it's his website and he's ultimately responsible for it.

Obviously we can't change what happens on Soulseek, so the TA and UKTA rooms can't be removed by us, but we can prevent future damage.

Discussion over thanks
