King you are sleeping

you pick up this working girl, hooked on smack
"hustles and scores, thats all I do," she says
she says, "10 bucks for head, 15 for half & half"
she says "3 hits a day @ 35 per," you say "thats 7 tricks a day atleast"
she says "sometimes I get lucky. once this guy gives me a bill and a half just to eat me...only time I ever came"

you
are
sleep
ing

you figure you can save her
you sell your color TV and it keeps her off the streets a whole day
you hock your typewriter for one joe
then your shotgun, your watch
a week later you say "listen, I'm a little short"
but she says "no scratch, no snatch"
you say "look, it is better to give"
but she says "be gone, creep"

one night they spot you on the street in your skivvies trying to sell your shoes
you tell them who you are, but they fail you
then she happens bye and she says "christ, you look fucked"
she says "hang tough"
you don't say anything
you just think "what a bum rap for a nice, sensitive guy like me."

: PQM - You Are Sleeping (PQM Meets Luke Chable Vocal Pass) :

The clear winner in the TA Track of the Year poll was ATRC. Well deserved, imo. You Are Sleeping was my own personal track of the year for 2003. Just wondering what everyone elses own personal track of the year was for 2003. Doesn't have to be well-known at all. Feel free to post the lyrics if it has any.
No threadjacking, please

...and only 1 of them is actually a 2003 release (seems like mine is officially set for release in 2004)

you are sleeping came out before 2003. scott henry has it on one of his cd's that he released in 2001 (maybe??). it's def not a 2003 track though. anyway, still a hot track, but not of 2003.

Not to go off topic, but...RE: You are sleeping....

Can someone please explain why they like this song so much? Is it his delivery, the subject matter, or what?

I think I am missing something. I have the track and listen to it whenever It happens up, but dont get the appeal....does it remind you of being screwed over by an ex or something? I am just trying to understand the appeal, not dissing anyone or anything....

I miss the point of thread as well with this, so to keep in line herre i'd have to say "Holding onto nothing" as it makes me feel like I am not the only hopeless romantic out there....
