Madagascar lead tutorial for the Virus

Hey guys, read that great tutorial for the jp and though maybe there are some infected virus owners out there who might want a nice sounding lead. I modelled it on the lead in the Push mix of Madagascar, so you can try it with the art of trance - madagascar midi file. It works quite nicely, although its probably a little more powerful and deeper than the push lead. I hope it helps (and works). I just took down anything I changed from Sounddiver so I hope its all correct. I noticed the noise parameter showed up incorrectly in sounddiver so I hope that's the only thing that was incorrect ( I've hence changed it).

Have fun guys. . Thanks Dan for hosting

Cheers mate, just let me know how I should send it to you.

out of interest, was this by accident or a delibrate remake of the sound? If it was a delibrate remake, how did you go about learning synth programming? Or at least, wheres a good place to start?

Posted by hey cheggy on Jan-15-2004 13:46:

Well, kinda an accident. I started off just trying to make a supersaw style lead using the madagscar midi file. I'm not saying this is exactly the same, just very similar but a very nice lead.

Its pretty obvious that its a super-saw style sound. I just started with 3 oscillators running 5 detuned saw waves each, plus a sub-os for some depth. 16 waveforms all up. I call it MEGASAW. Will get a sample up soon, Shepless is being kind enough to host it for me.

As for learning, just learned by screwing around and playing with stuff to see what effect they have on sounds. Also, looking at tutorials on here. They can normally be transcribed to any synth as long as it subtractive

More Virus Tutorial's

Sorry guys, forgot about this thread. Like I said, its not the Push lead, I was just inspired by the Push lead. This one is a lot deeper and less hissy that his one. I just think its a really nice sounding lead.

uploaded now

HERE is the link.

Thanks for hosting it mate.

Very Sweeet!!! Sounding

Posted by Pappa on Jan-17-2004 17:48:

Heya Cheggy, I tried your Tut, but I don't use SoundDiver, I did it from the Panel. 2 Questions, and maybe one is a mistype. on OSC 1, is that correct on shape.. " -25 " ?? Mine won't go to the Negs. and on OSC2, I can't get PW unless my Shape is 64 for Saw. and you have shape as 23.

Let me know. I got close to what yours sounds, but not excatly..

Posted by hey cheggy on Jan-17-2004 17:58:

Osc 1 Shape = 39
(64-25=39) In sounddiver 12 o'clock = 0. On Virus, 12 o'clock = 64.

Oscilattor 2 shape = 87
(64 + 23 = 87) same reason as above. I hope there aren't too many other things like that.

Oscillator 2 PW = 68. Once you move oscillator 2 shape past 64, wave select dial will turn into oscillator Pulse Width.

Thanks for the corrections, Sounddiver is such a pain in the ass.
