Question Producing under the infuence of drugs..

Hey guys, ok this thread is a little different.. How many of you enjoy producing music while under the influence of drugs? Do you find your music ability increases/decreases?

I personally find that most of my creativity comes out best when I'm clean, although I find it alot of fun when tweaking parameters while really stoned.. After a while I get lost in the music and forget what I was originally doing (after tweaking an envelope for a good hour or so hearing detail that someone straight would never hear.. (Read: Wasting time.. haha)

I have never really produced anything while on anything 'harder' as this time is usually when I am at a party.. but there have been times when I have come home after hearing an awesome DJ spin with a bunch of producers i've met in the morning... but we end up speaking shit more then actually getting anything done.

So the best 'state of mind' while producing I think is when your mind is clear...

For a test I wrote a track, half of clean, the other half while stoned. See if you can guess when I did what =)
This could be quite interesting..

I don't do a lot of drugs myself, but i find you never get anything done when you produce trollied. I just sit there and listen, especially when I'm stoned.

I think that you were stoned in the first half cos there are too many random changes

I think the subject is too broad. You need to limit it to certain chemicals. I can tell you that I seem a little more productive after having some coffee, but not after having tons of beer or vicoden. I think that there are many drugs that could possibly be helpfull in creativity, but that is up to the user, the individual affects on them, and the reason that they use the drug. For instance prozac (SSRI's) *might* be very benificial for a person that has extreme lack of will. Same with Adderal/ritalin for person that can't concentrate. Same with illegal drugs. My friend who only smokes pot and is a pro photographer says that his best award wining works were done while stoned. Personally I can't do crap while stoned.

All I need is alcohol every now and then, and there's no way Im producing when im shitfaced.

As for weed, only do it occasionally and it would be interesting to see what I would produce with that.

Everything else, I dont touch it.

I've done a few in my day. I've produced after smoking weed before, and moved at a rate that was 1/50th as fast as I would have sober. If I have a few drinks (3-4 beers) I find, if I'm in the mood anyways, that I can be really motivated and come up with good ideas. Any more booze than that and it wouldn't work for me. Other chemicals... have never tried producing with, but can't see it working very well.

Drugs are bad. People think, yeah but look at artists like Hendrix who were big drug users and made classic tunes. Well I have an answer for you, Hendrix with or without drugs would of made those tunes cause he was a musical genius and a master of guitar playing. Drugs do not make you produce better music. Trance music is my drug.

ive produced on E, coke, shroomz, weed, speed, prescription drugs,...

the best is shroomz... brings out amazing sound

I personally disagree that hendrix would of been the same without any drugs, his music come from his conciousness wich had been affected by drugs..not that wasnt a genius, but many genius's have taken copious mounts of drugs..

Few years ago I was in bad fever about +38,5 , no producing at all but after taking a drug called "ASPIRIN" fever was gone and I was happiest in the world , and new productions starts automagically
that's my story -> you can tell it to your kinds and grandkids!

? You never drink or smoke ??

I produced some times when I was drunk.. the problem is you think everything you do is damn good (its the same on a party if you are totally wasted on whatever you're high on you kinda enjoy everything) and if you listen the day after (with a headache ) it sounds crap. I remember I made a song once for about 3 hours then turned everything off without saving

Sometimes tho I do some great things I'd never consider doing when being sober.

honestly really its varied from person to person. i personally find it depends how i feel emotionally that day as to how i produce and the drugs simple just increase my concentration alot meaning where i might overlook something sober as im uually rather inpatient sober. in all honesty on that track id have to say the first part you were sober second half you werent. why well due to the fact taht i know when i am under the influenc ei find doing synth work to be by far more enjoyable and i find my abilty to percisle put the notes wher ei want them to be better. but yet again this really is simple varied person to person. thatd be like saying why can some people completely matain theirself when they are completly gone but some people simple can not controll any of their behavoir while under the influence. so in conclusion id say personally i produce alot better stoned i make better rifts i make better melodys i come up with better ideas and i sequence ALOT better stoned then sober just my 2cents tho

only did some with a hangover

all i know about producing with alcohol/drugs is that you will start to use too much too high tones.

Your right! Uplifting strings... synth work.. its the best... you pay attention to every detail, you can hear every note in a chord and hear how they drop off when passing the audio through a lpf to such a great extent... not that you cant do that normally, but you seem to get 'lost' in the music. Compare it to when you are exausted and your body is dead, but your mind is overactive.. its kinda hard to explain.

The problem with trying to do things while being high is this...things that SEEM like a good idea when one is intoxicated often turn out to bad when one is sober. Like taking turns shooting beer cans off your friends heads (yes, I have seen people attempt this...indoors). Moral of the story...copious amounts of certain substances = stupid, reasonable amounts = ...well it depends on the person I guess.
