Well, I finally transported my SLK-1200s across the country to my current residence. I purchased new flight cases that were ATA approved, and everything was going well. I knew they were probably going to screen my bags, but little did I know that the screeners were going to take it upon themselves to practically dismantle both of my tables.

Despite scratching the finish on one deck, which I am going to let slide, I have a much more serious problem. The tone arm on one of my decks appears to have the anti-skate on hyper drive.

Whenever I move the tone arm towards the center of the record, there is tension pulling against my finger, and once I place the needle on the record it slides all the way to the rim of the platter. I've checked and rechecked the anti-skate and it is on 0, I've checked the weight placement, everything I can think of, but nothing is working.

Does anybody have any ideas? I am getting desperate. Thanks.

Most likely the problem should be easily fixed. Near the tonearm weight, there are 2 screws that screw in to the tonearm (you should see a little bridge that goes over the tonearm with the screws going through into the tonearm). These are the bearings... one allows it to move freely up and down, one allows it to move freely left and right.

Most likely they tightened these bearings too tight (which can have the possibility of damaging the bearing). Loosen those screws until you can freely move the tonearm back and forth or up and down. You should probably lift the safety so the tonearm wont fall on the platter.

As for tightening and loosening the bearings you'll see that you need a big screw and a little screw... You'll have to tweak around with it (its hard to explain) but you'll understand the physics of it once you start doing it.

Haha not a problem. I had that prob when i purchased my tables used. I think the kid thought they were busted but all i had to do was loosen that a little.

i think thats disgusting. complain like hell, if they are going to completely dismantle something, they should at least put it back together correctly. damn customs..

I would complain. They have basically decreased the resale value of your deck now that it is scratched.

mndeg, did you try using wd40 on it? perhaps the screw got a little rusty. I don't think you can really damage anything trying to take it out, but watch out tightening the screws, you want them JUST tight enough to hold it, anything more may damage the point on the bearings. Good luck

cant get them loose, already sprayed wd40
and it's not rust

ive had 2 Tts with this problem now, probably something that happened during shipping that overtightened the screws or something
