Question How to lower CPU Usage?

I need tips on this. How can I lower CPU usage in general? I often have problems reaching 120% with Fruity even using just 3 or 4 light softsynths (which shouldn't be too much in my opinion), and it's annoying because I need to render a tune everytime I want to EQ, compress...

Is my pentium 600Mhz that obsolete?

What I've already done:
- I use Reverb and Delay in those "send fx" channels (don't know how to call them technically)
- I run only fruity loops when producing
- I tried to pre-record samples but EQ'ing and compressing becomes poor this way.

ps.: I didn't find anything when I did a search

Pretty much, yeah.
I recently had to upgrade my 800mhz cause it couldn't run my Reason tracks any more.

I guess it's time to sell my saxophone and raise funds for a computer upgrade then What do you use now, Mr. Mystery?

And are there any helpful tips that may help me do some miracles with my compy? Just while I can't upgrade it...

Well, depending on what you have installed and what operating system you have, there can be stuff running in the background that can be killed to free up a bit of processor speed.

I'm starting to have the same problem in Reason with my old 650 mhz machine. One of the demo songs that comes with it I can't even play because of my computer speed. Kinda funny.

The only thing running in the background is the multilanguage support for East Asian languages and I use Win98. I would close the multilanguage support, but windows keeps restarting the bloody thing even after several ctrl+alt+del's

King

if u can cough up 100 quid or 200 euros or something like that

then u can get a 1.6 ghz amd athlon with new mobo and shit like me

except mine runs at 1.3ghz as my mobo dont like it at 1.6...pos

but if u really want to lower cpu useage

in the wave options in fruity, set ur output rate to 22050hz instead of 44100hz, it makes a large difference

dont use power synths that soak up ur cpu, like virus, z3ta+, absynth etc

make use of the 3xosc, u can make very phat sounds out of that if u use it correctly with FX etc

dont use too much of the fruity reeverb, thats usually known for its cpu munching...

thats all i have to say...

Plug ins and effects eat CPU power. Like in pro tools... the more plug in effects and processors you have the more CPU.. i hear that the more tracks you have deals with like hard drive shit, imn not sure
