SFU Anyone

Would be good if we can meet up and talks about music
I am a DJ that works at Viva and Blox at richmond , working with endless production

Posted by mikefasssy on Jan-19-2004 18:31:

very true, me and uxud want to get something going, its just that we lack pretty much any sort of drive at all, which kind of sucks.

too bad we missed teh club week, because no offence to anyone already in a club, but most of them suck. I felt so sorry for the single girl at the vocal jazz table with vocal jazz written on a blank peice of paper taped to the desk. *tear*

but yea, lets do this fo sheez.

Posted by apri_peel on Jan-19-2004 20:12:

hahahaha
many clubs DO suck actually
you guys should put something together, volunteer at cjsf, maybe you can get a slot on the air or something, daytime trance

when i'm back, maybe we could start a club or something

i got u beat caleb, i aint driving out to sfu burnaby for a club :P

Posted by autoracer1 on Jan-20-2004 08:45:

SFU here...

Yeah.. most of the clubs do suck. I kinda ignored club day altogether anyway though.. so meh. Id contribute a good portion of my free time... which isnt very much with 4 classes and 30hours a week at work, +gf.

Is there any proper listing of clubs? I know today outside of c9001 there was that sfu elite bhangra, the anime club, and one of the 504372508347643 random chinese/taiwainese/asian clubs.

Have to get caught up on my music tho.. was really into it 2-3 years ago, but now I dont have much time to dl songs, or even the latest asot

Do ppl actually listen to the radio station? Im 1st year... never actually tried... i always figured it would be 5435 "educated liberal" greenpeace university students speaking out against the govt/iraq/whatever, like those crazies who set up that little booth outside the white spot last semester, saying let NK have nukes and stuff

Posted by autoracer1 on Jan-20-2004 08:57:

Just checked the CJSF site... they have 2 electronic programs.. one wed night, other big one fri night.

Are they run by TAers... or just ppl who like trance/electronic?

Posted by DjCommisad on Jan-20-2004 14:13:

Wed Night 12-2am, "Intro to Trance" with guests and the newest and best tracks, along with requests and information from Angelo (TA username = 35 and Hooked)

Friday Night 10pm-2am, "Life at 140 Beats per minute," with Mirka, 4 hours of live mixing, with trance, progressive, house, hardcore and funky beats with special guest djs every week. (mirka TA = spinswax)

Sunday Night (not sure time), there is a DNB show.

There is also I think a jungle show.

thanks for the plug greg , tell you what i can do

well to get this club off the ground , im thinkin of doing an sfu student night , where you bring in your fav 3 trance tracks to the show and we can do a quick chat session with each of you about trance music , what do you think ?

Posted by DjCommisad on Jan-20-2004 14:47:

ideas for the club:

-recruitment of new members, give them the opportunity to be exposed to something more than the hiphop/rock/breaks that dominate the music scene here (imo).
-talk about new developments, new tunes, new artists
-local events, past, present and future

-share a couple of beers and just talk about the music =D

That would be pretty sweet, good idea.

But yea, I'm not sure what the function of the club could really be. Sure we can talk about new stuff etc, but if you are a regular TA that would kind of get redundant. The best idea would be local events I guess, but that is kind of a whole other issue.

Although I'm down for what commisad put forth, which I assume would start with a few minutes of relevant conversation, followed by everyone getting sloshed.

I think before we try and get something official going, we should get at least a few concrete ideas of what the clubs goal would be (obviously something like spreading the music etc etc) but I think without any solid function ideas it would kind of go nowhere.

Me and uxud have talked abit about it, and something like getting a nice sound system, bringing it up to a usable room up here (I assume you get something like that if you are an official club?) and just listening to favourite tunes, and chilling, but I don't know how welcoming that would be for noobs and such.

Events would be fecking cool though, everytime I'm in the convo mall I imagine it decked out with speakers and lights

Anyways, lets keep ideas/opinions coming, and in the next few years something functional should surface.

Caleb

lol@recruit
i like that word

i was in european club, still am i suppose
anyways, i remember something about getting $350 from the student union if your club organizes a special event or something something for the first week of classes of a semester. dont remember the details but there is some money.

as for what we could do........ we could invade mirka's radio show once in a while hehehehe j/k
im thinking go to special events together or something? or go to angelo's show, play tracks, drink beer, get wasted, go to 8:30 class the next day

On the radio station

Posted by autoracer1 on Jan-21-2004 04:16:

IMO, best way to do it would be someone with laptop and large HD, then into a receiver/stereo.

I agree with mikefassy.. the actual proceedings of a club meeting cant be regular TA stuff, it would have to be listening to music (new stuff burned that someone found or just good stuff), drinking, chatting etc.

Problems with the drinking part.. im 18 til exams this semester (apr 17) Unless it was bring your own beer, which is fine. But count me out of any pub/club stuff

All up for actually organizing something tho.

What days is your guys schedule free? Im good on m,w,f.. other days i work til late.

Posted by DjCommisad on Jan-21-2004 07:06:

Hmmm, well I wouldn't recommend a pub really anyways, beer can be expensive at most... then again I don't think we can find someone willing to shell out their home once a month to have a bunch of us over.

But yeah, totally, let's not bring the TA to the meetings :P

I just meant, well it can be a bunch of stuff too, like there will be real djs there who can give guys like me and shadowmaster some tips, and we can listen to some promos, and listen to some local stuff, maybe we can even get radio guys like angelo involved and pick a guest mix for him to air (just throwing out ideas, i'm not committing angelo to anything since I don't speak for him).

As for long term goals or some sort of motto? Well really, the club would be about a community of people sharing an interest in electronic music, the promotion, growth and understanding of playing, listening and enjoying the music. Side tasks are to provide feedback for local talent (be it professional or hobbyists) and to invest interest in new potential members/listeners.

But i don't know.

Does anyone have a used psych 100/102 textbook that I could buy? The bookstore wants 150 because you have to buy all the gay study guide and cd and dumb shit like that as a package and I will never use any of it. Plus I have a midterm next week so I want to get some reading in, so sell it to me damnit.

pmmmmmm, i need iiiiiit

Posted by Magimaster on Jan-23-2004 07:25:

hey I'm a member of an SFU club, even though I don't go to SFU

it's one of those asian clubs, the CAC (canadianized asian club)

I think the name is lame too.

A trance club would be dope though. Would it be just for SFU students? I haven't done anything remotely trance-related (this involves obtaining new trance) in months. I need my fix bad. None of my friends are hardcore into it (though a couple dabble into it). I'm offically out of the loop.

Hello, that is me. I'm at SFU right now in the Rotunda on the wireless network killing some time. That's actually exactly what I suggested to mikefasssy we did.

I am down with starting this club. I think we need 10 people, at least that is the buzz. If we can get some things going I can start posting flyers.

We don't want too many members, we just want enough to keep things interesting. I see no need for fundraisers or membership drives. I have plenty of old amps we can use for the room...since in essence the club would be solely us sitting around and talking about music.

Which, when you think about it, isn't much different from the other clubs - except you replace "music" with "jesus" or "Asia."

Field trips to Viva.

Alright This sounds Cool
Can we book a room at night and then start up our music loud ?

I have Huge Speaker at home and I got all turn tables and Pioneer CD player ready and set for an SFU Party
