-- Dreamcast + 2 controllers for $29.99 @ blockbuster

Question Dreamcast + 2 controllers for $29.99 @ blockbuster

that's what they're going for at a blockbuster close to my house and at ebgames you can get a DC with 1 controller and 1 game for $39. i've wanted a dreamcast ever since they came out like 4-5 years ago, but i dont know if i'm even gonna bother anymore cuz all the games i wanted to buy a DC for now have newer versions for X-Box anyway

Sonic Adventure = Sonic Heroes
Soul Calibur = Soul Calibur 2
Crazy Taxi = Crazy Taxi 3

even though.. i'm still tempted for some reason to get one

I'm pretty sure you can dl games and burn them to cd and play them on the dreamcast...not sure exactly how this works but I'm sure someone on here can explain.

I've also heard you can play old NES games on there too which I find to be pretty cool.

Yes you can play old NES games on there, you just have to have the emulator ROM burned to the CD with the games on the CD and you'll be able to play them. I tried it on my friend's DC and it works.

Does the XBox needed to be modified before you can do that?

www.dcemulation.com

thas a great website to start lookin into emulators on the DC. not just a bunch of dreamcast fanboys. i never understood y people gotta dl and burn dc games when these things are fairly cheap brand new. new games that are still comin out are expensive still though. importin is really easy on this system as well. a boot disc and no moddin. NES is runnin at pretty much full speed, SNES is about 90-95% speed and Genesis is pretty far behind. gamestop is sellin their DCs for $20, and ebgames is sellin em for $15 now. excellent system, if u love fightin games, this system has a ton of em. King Of Fighters 99, '00, '01, & '02 are all on it. Capcom Vs SNK 1 & 2 are on it. Soul Calibur is much better on the DC as well. tons of great games, out of the 30 some games i own, none of them have disappointed me. if there are any questions u have, u can PM me or join the boards on dcemulation. i post their often too

I'm SO sick of elitest XBox pricks! "My Xbox can play DivX movies and burned games plus every old school console known to man including Virtual Boy and Jaguar!" Yeah well if I gave two shits about the XBox then maybe I'd give you a cookie for all your bragging.

Does your XBox also have a nice warm cup of coffee ready for you in the morning when you wake up? No. Does your XBox wipe your ass after you take a shit? No. Well then, what's SO great about it?

The greatest part about a DC is the pirating... its kinda died out now but a couple of years ago you could easily get every game ever made for the thing (part of the reason they went outta business I think)

well i dont especially like xbox either, but the fact of the matter is that it is the cheapest decent performance PC out today. and minimal hacking gives you the ability to put in huge harddrives and provides the TV access for old games, movies and shows- pretty neat if you dont want to depend on your PC or dont have TV out or something.

still those fucking controllers are terrible|

Yes and it is not easy to do at all. You are better of with a DC if you want to play old school games without any mods.

If you have an xbox to play mame the you are paying for a small pc. especially if you have to swap out the dvdrom drive and get a chip and some other stuff.

The DC has good emu projects out there.

BTW my pc can do anything an xbox can do and better. Like can your xbox capture video or download divx or run a mail server or run a IIS host or triple or quad boot different os'es?

well i dont have any experience with Xbox mods, i believe that if you have even basic computer knowledge its not difficult.

and both systems run on a modified Windows platform, so i dunno why it would matter which you had.

my friend that modded only complained that he didnt put in a big enough hard drive! 160GB wasnt enough apparantly, and you cannot get that kind of size with DC|

Posted by Magnus on Jan-28-2004 17:17:

$29.99 is a great deal, considering you have a giant library of free games at your disposal. All you need to do is download and burn them. No mod chip or anything is required unless you have one of the final, newer model Dreamcasts but I've only had a couple of friends that had these. You can find all the games you want on either IRC or alt.binaries.dreamcast Have fun!

I still have my Dreamcast. Mind you, I don't play it much anymore, but I still love it. Sonic Adventure was frickin' awesome on it, but SoulCalibur...holy Mackerel, I don't know of any DC game that had better graphics than SoulCalibur. The one thing that saddened me was the RPGs. Granted, I never got a chance to play, what was it, Phantasy Star online? Or something? I heard it was ok. Evolution, or some RPG like that was a major disppointment. Crazy Taxi was HELLA FUN. And the Street Fighter III games were major cool. I don't know if they ever came out for any other system besides DC, tho.
