Arrow Jay M - Mass Destruction / My Way / Firestorm ... Please review

Hello y'all!

I've been creating electronical music about 4,5 years now. I started in Fast Tracker and really wondered why I couldn't create good quality songs

I discovered Fruity Loops 3.56 about half a year ago and I've made a lot of progress since. A week ago I discovered this forum and I think it's awesome! I downloaded a lot of great songs and I got some real good VST generators for my own productions.

My style of music I mostly create can be described as melodious trance with club influences. I'd be VERY pleased if some of you reviewed 3 of my songs:

** (It's all trancy actually)

Jay M - Mass Destruction - 6:20, 192kbps. Harder trance.

Jay M - My Way - 6:34, 192kbps. Harder trance, more clubby

Jay M - Firestorm - 9:40, 192kbps. Trance

Jay M - Firestorm (Next Edit 1) - 9:40, 128kbps. Trance. Improved, bassdrum much better.

**

I used a compressor for the first time for these songs. They sound better now, but I'm trying to find out how to get the best quality sound with it.

I would appreciate any tips and comments per song!

Cheers
-Jay

Review on its way for "Mass Destruction". Hold tight pal. I'm perilously close to my download limit so only reviewing the one.

Ok, I'll drop some smaller versions on the server, MP3 PRO shit.

MP3 Pro creates mp3s half the size of normal mp3s, with nearly the same quality. e.g. 64 kbps sounds like 128kbps ! But you'll need an upgrade for your player.

okay, here we go. (enter shameless plu) feal free to review my sample while your reading (sanctuary - sample).

First of all, I think its a little too fast. Bassline is cool though, fits in well with everything else.

Takes a while to really get into the song. Sounds like it's starting to happen at around 4 minutes. Cool lead in the breakdown, and breakdown melody is cool too. The build up is a bit too strong though, or at least I think it is, because when it kicks in, its not quite hard enough.

Melody is cool, synths are cool, pads pretty decent, kick could use some lower frequencies to it. Its kinda pansy for hard trance. It could do with a bit more oomph, which might give the entire track a bit more energy and warmth.

Hope that helps.

Hey hey cheggy, I think you're right at everything.

The bass could have been faded away by the compressor, I'll need to look at it.. And this main break is at 3 mins or so, it takes a while indeed. I'll shortcut it before the break and create 2 of 'em, some weaker, cause it sounds cool in my opinion too.

Tnx for reviewing, hope you get to try the other ones soon, they're better structured!

Anybody else comments, advice, tips?

Weeeeellll......thought I'd review Firestorm

Firstly, this as a tune is quality - it's got the potential for me for an absolute screamer-belter-scorcher!!! It has the dutch elements that to me make a tune. It's just definitely got something for me.

Production-wise it's not so strong, but whose is? It sounds a little like you've fixed it with a master plug-in as opposed going back to the EQing etc. Not an expert so could be wrong. Lots of room and stuff but the things that need to be pronounced don't seem to be.

I love this though. It's got the real bouncy feel that to me makes a good producer. You have the talent, in a year or two who knows???

I love the little touches - 6:44 being a prime example - such a trick riff with that sine-like lead - I love it!!!!

In terms of tips - bassdrum is just too durn quiet and weak - sounds pippy. Everything sounds processed like it's all been run through reverb or something - the definition of the levels isn't so clear to my ears. It all seems a little awash. Maybe strip it back to the basics (no effects) and rebuild.

But that's just there to add something to think about - I do like this.

i listened to firestorm since im into trance
really catchy melody, i was singing it in the shower today, lolz
anyways, things u can just think about maybe
beets are pretty good, and bass is really good from what i hear
strings are good, the synths you could make it more trebly and powerful and that sound that comes in every 4 seconds or so (like an extra bass/synth or something) try to make that more bassy :d cause that goes really well with the song
otherwise good track

Tnx DJ Gingi and BassAngel for reviewing! Useful comments. I worked on some points and it should sound better in some ways. Glad to have some decent bassdrum generator now! :P

Download here the 128kbps version, for the latest edit.
