Mauro Picotto...going up or down?

Mauro is one of my absolute favorite DJ's, and without any doubt my favorite producer, but I think his sets were a lot better a couple of years ago. Is it just me?

As he hasn't released anything on CD for a while, I don't know what Mauro's newest stuff is like, but I prefer his techno to his tech-trance.

Posted by nchs09 on Jan-22-2004 17:17:

hes my absolute favorite too!!! love his remixes and songs and sets!

i havent heard any of him lately either though....

Posted by Sweet_As_Fcuk on Jan-22-2004 17:20:

His old sets were he was playing tech-trance were brilliant but now that he is playing proper techno he has gone shit.To be honest he shouldnt be playing techno because he isnt technically good enough. He could hardly mix trance nevemind techno.

mauro has never been a hugely popular dj apart from that one year when he hit the dj poll top 10. but i think that was mainly because of the amount of production work he was doing.

as a dj mauro isn't technically brilliant but his tune selection is very good. At the moment he has started to add a lot more minimal elements into his dj sets and he is also doing a lot of work in the studio for an upcoming album

to answer the question i'd say he's exactly where he was when he first infultrated the scene, neither hugely popular nor hugely disliked. just someone that dj's and with the help of a man called ricky makes the best tunes ever

Smiley DJ

Picotto is genius, always at the top of my playlist. i think theres alot more to come from picotto

Posted by tu_face on Jan-22-2004 18:01:

ye he has never been technically amazing or anything, but as someone said his tune selection is superb! i like his techno sets, although i cant say ive heard many..

i too havent heard him play for a while, but i am going to be seeing him feb 6th @ emporium, so i will see!

Posted by DRM on Jan-22-2004 18:03:

to be honest i think i prefered him 2001/2002 ish. as that was when he has playing the kinda stuff i like. the proper techno thing is alrite to listen to but aint my fav type of stuff. That said he aint got better or worse as others mentioned. he's just changed his style. but he's till top draw to be fair

Mauro single handedly lost his residency at my club by having the djing skills of an amatuer.

Good news. Hope its out before long.

Picotto is one of those artists who split fans. You either love him or hate him, and I think he's brilliant.

Posted by verminator on Jan-22-2004 18:31:

think he's much better now , but still not "amazing".. got some nice sets with nice track selection as chesco said, but his djing isn't exactly impressive.. same old boring transitions all the time.. nothing spectacular as beyer or the rest of the 'gang'

much better productions too, i actually bought playing footsie/amazing, but i kinda regret as it wasnt as nice to play here as it sounded in the live@insideout set. anyways, i'll buy taotek when i find it, nice productions, but i've heard it's more a effe/ferri or something production rather than a picotto one..

Posted by jonSun on Jan-22-2004 18:42:

Picotto is my fav too. On his live sets ive heard from the last year he has been more techno then ever before.

Posted by T_2199 on Jan-22-2004 18:55:

Definatly going up.

Maruo Picotto AND RICARDO FERRI - Alchemist EP
MAURO PICOTTO - Playing Footsie
MAURO PICOTTO AND RICARDO FERRI - Taotek EP

Enough said

Don't get me wrong - I'm not dissing Picotto (just a little bit), his sets are still pure mint - I was jumping around, screaming and just acting like a freaking monkey consistently for four hours when I first saw him in November back here in Sweden. I even get to shake his hand afterwards!!! I couldn't sleep for several days just out of the excitment due to that

But as somebody said, his 01/02 sets were ever better, I was expecting him to drop more Baguettish-type of tracks. (Of course he dropped that one also, which made me loose my fucking mind). Unforgetable.

But his productions though, they are just first class. Keeps getting better and better. Unfortunately he didn't play any of his never tracks that day when I saw him in Stockholm which dissapointed me a bit. But I guess you can't have it all

they nearly always are, even if they are under the name picotto or the name ferri..

top notch production of late, and top talent spotting with primevil!

Posted by SniFFleS on Jan-22-2004 20:31:

his older stuff was better but hes still my favourite

Posted by CJ InterCity on Jan-22-2004 20:54:

I'm not into Picotto's music that much. I totally love "the album" but I must say, I was a bit disappointed on his second album "the others" maybe it's just me

Proximus will always be my fav Picotto tune

Do the guys you work for know your posting stuff like this on public message boards??

Posted by Spin Doctor on Jan-22-2004 21:56:

Now that Picottos gone Techno I must admit Ive not liked him as much as I used to. I dont find hes got that much structure in his sets either, though in fairness I haven't heard that many of his most recent sets.

Ricky Effe All the way!

going down? nah... his mixing isn't "OMG", but I like it (or his style...?). Especially his flangering.
