Real football vs American football

Ok i know its not a sport discussion room, but i just wondering wich one you prefer to watch Real football or American football , and why

Posted by Mebot on Jan-24-2004 16:51:

Personally i like both.

Real football because i used to play and its pretty intense to watch. 90 minutes of no timeouts or very minimal timeouts for substitutions or penalties... i dunno its a very rough contact sport, i like watching it.

American football because it's also fun to watch. i like rooting for my College football team.. its great to see rivalries and sometimes the game can change at any instant by a well-placed field goal or a touchdown.

Posted by hardstyle on Jan-24-2004 16:56:

yeah

i got no problem with both either, the only thing it pisses me off that basic american sport channel doesnt have too much football, they have like 10 hours of american football instead.
Well once in a while american sport channels should give a chance to football

Posted by Mebot on Jan-24-2004 17:00:

yeah thats true.. well you can always upgrade your cable service for the total sports package that way you can get great Bundesliga and Premier League football action! or pretty much any football league overseas.

and now that i think about it.. i wish there were more channels dedicated to Rugby as well. I dont understand the sport but its fun to watch! Now thats a REAL contact sport!

Posted by igottaknow on Jan-24-2004 17:07:

I like "Real" American football

Posted by Strike on Jan-24-2004 17:09:

"real" football as in soccer?
i enjoy watching american football
can't stand soccer

Posted by BadBadNeil on Jan-24-2004 17:09:

I dont like either much but they can't be compared at all because other than the name they have NOTHING in common. Its like comparing baseball to basketball. I think better comparisons in terms of likenesses would be Hockey vs. Soccer(futbol) and American Football vs. Rugby

I dont like soccer(futbol) because to me the game is frustrating to watch as it seems people rarely score. It reminds me too much of hockey where theres one person with the ball or puck and then they pass it, pass it again, then someone misses a goal and repeat over and over and over. It is nice though when someone scores on a cool play like a header or flipping on their back or something.

American football I think is a more balanced sport because it doesnt limit you to only parts of your body and there is more physical contact. Yes people say the players are pussies for wearing pads but when was the last time you saw a 6'4" 350lb soccer player trying to tackle someone. The downsides of football is that when there are penalties the game can be quite slow and there is delays between plays which can add to the slowness of the game.

Soccer is more fun to watch and play. I dont understand american football at all.

Posted by Azz3D on Jan-24-2004 17:15:

I can watch all 3, soccer, rugby, and american football.

American football grew on me in the last couple of years...

Does dutch called football =soccer???

I tought its voetball in dutch wich means football in english

Posted by Boomer187 on Jan-24-2004 17:48:

Soccer is ok to watch. Although I cannot watch it for more than 10 mins...i just get bored and fed up with the timer. I still don't understand that thing.

Football I can only watch a little of too. ALthough I can usually sit through a whole game, i usually end up watching til commercials, then changing, and if I get back on the channel I watch more.

Hockey I love to watch. I can watch all day, as long as the red wings are playing.

rugby is kinda fun to watch. although I get bored of it soon also.

Posted by DJ Mikey Mike on Jan-24-2004 18:08:

soccer ffs.

Football I love. I like to watch, and I like to play even more. American football is just a wimps version of Rugby and bores me.

Posted by Moongoose on Jan-24-2004 18:25:

I like football alot, i can also watch rugby, however american football looks really boring to me

Posted by hardstyle on Jan-24-2004 18:26:

lol

i know fifa has a mini soccer league in England, but only 4-12 years olds play soccer, its different then football i think, in mini soccer theres only 8 players in each team instead of 11 in football, also in mini soccer has a smaller field and met then football.

I was reading this on the uefa.com

i love american football its great gotta love the NFL

Posted by TuanAnh213 on Jan-24-2004 20:07:

nobody cares about soccer...err i mean football in america professional wise cuz its so fucking boring to watch? although 14 year old phenom freddy adu may spark my interest personally...anyway american football all the way...and i agree it is sort of a pussy version of rugby but i still find it extremely entertaining

Posted by dimiz on Jan-24-2004 22:27:

Something that most americans don't seem to know: Football is called "soccer" only in the USA, the rest of the world knows it as football. And, american football is just a version of rugby, which is the way this sport should be played. No helmets and stuff!

Actually us Canadians call it soccer also.

I've always been a huge fan of soccer, and love watching the games. People say its boring but thats bullshit IMO. Soccer games have no commercial breaks and like a 5 minute half time, I wish all pro sports were like that. Just because there aren't a lot high scoring games doesnt mean there isnt' a ton of awesome action. To me just the dekes/moves/traps/passes/curving free kicks are entertaining on their own. I think you have to have played soccer to appreciate the difficulty though.

NFL is pretty boring IMO, too much emphasis on defense. I'd rather watch CFL, even though the players aren't as skilled the game is much more exciting. I guess some people love watching a tough defensive battle, but I'd rather see some offense. This goes for soccer too - thats why Italian soccer sucks :P

Football is the worlds most popular sport with over a bilion watching the final in the world cup. Everyone else calls it football. In american football you hardly ever kick the ball, why is it even called football?

American football is okay, I used to play it when I was younger. But I can't see how anyone can call football boring when compared to american football. Not much happens in AF. Win some yards, lose some. Comercial break(!!). Its a lot slower. In football, you can really see players technical ability, beautiful goals, an opening pass, a well timed tackle. A goal in football is ten times worth a goal in most sports. Because they are rare, they count for more and are a lot more emotionally exciting. A miss can be great too! For example a hard longshot in the post. I guess you have to be a fan to see what I mean.

Half time is 15 minutes, not 5.

Freddy Adu is going to be fucking ace, but USA will still never win anything unless the country takes a grip of the game and begin to stop being so defensive to football...oh i mean soccer.

Always remember New York during 2002 when USA were playing in last 16, and they went around asking ppl if they knew who were playing, and nobody knew! i think that is shit. I hate cricket, never watch it coz i just dont enjoy it, but if there is a world cup, i would know it was bloody happening!

USA need a national sport, what else they compete in on a national level, apart from in the Olympics, which eventually is still a individual sport.

NFL mang!! patriots are gonna stomp out the panthers for sho.. I can't say that soccer is boring, its just that I don't understand the game. I have an idea, but most people just say soccer sucks because they don't understand how it works (similar to most people who say the same about american football). if you take the time to try to understand it, you might find it more interesting. i hate that about people that say hockey sucks because their is not enough scoring. well, like soccer, there isn't much scoring because there happens to be a player whose sole job is to defend the goal, and hence if there was a lot of scoring, that guy isn't doing his job. games like basketball obviously have lots of scoring because there isn't someone standing there whose job is to stop the ball from going in the net. but to each his own, i love all sports... well most anyway.

Posted by PHALPAX on Jan-25-2004 00:15:

I perfer American football all because it is much more faster paced, more intensity, violence etc....

I find it funny how people *cough europeans* think that American football players are pussies because they wear pads, unlike rugby players.

Posted by kokanee on Jan-25-2004 00:30:

Gotta be football. Soccer's okay to watch, except it gets kinda boring unless it's a team like Arsenal, or Real Madrid on TV
Watching college football has grown on me a lot recently - I'd rather watch a college Bowl game then an NFL game With 90,000 people packing a stadium, you can feel the energy through the television!

You have to be joking right?

USA invented baseball, the national sport probably for the last 100 years or so. Now its not as much as its used to but that is because we have many sports that are popular, not only soccer like the rest of the world. No one watches soccer here because we are busy watching football, baseball, basketball, hockey, not to mention college sports, etc. This leaves less airtime for soccer which has less airtime than even golf. Hell even poker and iceskating get more airtime than soccer.

okies this isnt meant to offend anyone

Rugby - Real mans game
Football - Real mans game
American football - Men trying to play rugby, but dont wanna get hurt so they wear loads of padding (or is that just to make themselves look bigger)
soccer - 5 aside girls game

this is only my opinion no offence

*gets down on knees and prays* please dont get pounced on by many men for this (but then again)
