Mateo Murphy

I was wondering if anybody actually like him??

He always disappointed me and my friends, SO

1- why is he resident at ARIA??
2- Who likes him?
3- Why does he play so much BORING TRACKS?? ( I know it is just my opinion so feel free to agree or disagree BUT PLEASE! dont tell me to be more open minded!/!"$/$!"?% )

wadda u think?

Posted by disko-kandi on Jan-25-2004 01:07:

behave!

Posted by fastmp3 on Jan-25-2004 01:20:

IMO he's a better producer than a DJ ...

Posted by j@y on Jan-25-2004 03:13:

i dont know but he seems to be bored as hell when he his spinning

last night i think i didnt saw him groove to the beat even one second

he had one hand on his jean pocket and wasnt moving at all

i was like ...damn how his he able to be like this ,if i was spinning at aria i would be on fiya!!!!!

Posted by Psy-Trancer on Jan-25-2004 03:24:

marco G and Preach For Pres!

Posted by preach on Jan-25-2004 03:31:

Mateo is a very talented producer and also a good dj. He's maybe not playing 3 turntables all the time and jumping behind the decks but he got a different philosophy of mixing and i know many people that like him.

He maybe look more passive but i strongly believe that he has a big passion for what he's doing. no matter how he show it to the people.
he's a little more introvert than you but IMO he's fucking good

Posted by SiM PeRf on Jan-25-2004 03:42:

i dont like him that much, but i have to say that the end of his set last night was quite good...but man, it was wayyy better when Yaz entered....and even more when you (Preach) did....

Posted by mastercongo on Jan-25-2004 08:26:

i like the tracks he plays and his productions, eve if he doesnt look like he has fun behind the decks.

i do not understand the ta's cause for example last night, he played tracks that have been mentioned on the top lists.

pual mac - cards on the table
monike kruse - funk frequenz
chris liebing - american madness

etc.

plus jpx, i have seen you twice at aria. how many times have you seen him play.

seems like all you guys peurf squad, always agree in the same thing when it comes to not liking something :P.

Posted by malek on Jan-25-2004 08:40:

mateo is a super reserved guy. He's not the type to jump, roll over and do a backward flip.

does a dj needs to do that?

Posted by j@y on Jan-25-2004 09:37:

again..........a thread that turns away from the main subject bashing what the thread is all about

moi je pense que oui , la presence dun dj est tres importante
ca fai party de lensemble du show et c'est bien mieu (et je pense pas que la jai besoin de dire d'apres moi pour pas offenser personne)quand le dj a un charisme sur les tables

Posted by Kate Manus on Jan-25-2004 17:06:

I like Mateo!

He's not my fav. resident.. *cough* Preach .. and Marco G.. *cough*
but you won't see me complain that he's on the bill for the night.. unlike another resident or two. He's a dope producer, and he seems like a super chill guy.

I think we're a little spoiled in Montreal to have so many dope djs & producers, not just at Aria, Montreal as a whole.. everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I don't expect him to appeal to everyone.. but I think he's da shiznit. I hope 2004 brings him more international recognition, beyond his producing.
His upcoming set with Richie should be dope too.

Posted by rongerabbit on Jan-25-2004 18:53:

His productions are really good.

Check out his latest
Kiko - Euro 2003 (Mateo Murphy Remix)

As for his live sets, he's a passive dj, but his tracklistings are still amazing.
Just cuz a dj doesn't jump up and down hands in the air doesn't mean he's not good.

Posted by rongerabbit on Jan-25-2004 18:56:

btw, other interesting fact.

Mateo Murphy has played in clubs like Fabric, in London.
And if you check the line-ups in that club, only the best play there.

Posted by Biggy on Jan-25-2004 19:28:

Mateo is really talented and I think we need someone like him at Aria. He's really calm behind the decks, a bit like Richie Hawtin.
But that's his style and if every dj's would be the same, it would be boring.

Posted by Sadmafioso on Jan-25-2004 20:43:

first of all....i know his productions and i like them...I just don t like what he spins...Ive seen him probably around 6-7 times and each time it was boring as hell.

I know some people really like him and thats why i posted this thread. Master your talking about the peurf squad always agreeing and it is NORMAL since we all love the same tracks and styles ( approximately ) and that is also why we are such good friends.

I just think that there are a couple djs I could see that would WAY better fit the resident @ ARIA Dj place. That was my point...why him?

I was wondering if some people actually go to ARIA just for him...( like Preach ).

Anyway guys, it is my opinion and feel free to agree or disagree.
I still Love ARiA and will be there for Mauro and ill give Mateo another chance

Peace guys

btw master ive seen you aleast 5-6 times at ARIA...i dont understand your post ??!!

and Rongerrabbit your post about mateo playing in a big club...i dont know if know Tall PAUL ..He only plays in the places you could say: Only the best play there...

I really dont think that argument is worth something

Peace guys

I personally thoroughly enjoy a preach & mateo tag set.. haven't seen one in awhile either..

I don't know if I could say I would go to Aria just for Mateo, but I enjoy his sets, and I wouldn't wish him away for a second!
true, some sets are better than others, but he's pretty consistent, in my opinion.
Looking forward to seeing him Friday! Oliver Lieb first though..

Posted by mastercongo on Jan-26-2004 03:33:

well then to answer your question jpx, i like him, and i would probably go see him instead of marco g.

like i said he plays the stuff i like, and im sorry i came at you guys like that its just in the past you have come to me to ask for tracks that are the same stuff mateo plays, like the whole terminal m catlogue. i'm not sayin you should like him for 2 tracks he played that you like but i mean, he plays similar stuff.

but we all like diffrent things and that's a good thing

but my list is

1.-preach
2.-dj yaz
3.-mateo
4.-marco g

and as for a diffrent resident, i always tought g'obrian would be a good trance resident :P for the nights that trance djs come to play hehe.

Posted by preach on Jan-26-2004 03:37:

my fav :

dj mastercongo
dj krinker
dj zing
dj biggy

Posted by KrinKer on Jan-26-2004 03:51:

I.'M # 2

I'M #2

lol

There is more to a dj than running around the booth and giving a show.

It's all about skills and ... well he's got mad skills
He's an awesome producer
And yes he is boring BUT HE'S WICKED

Even tho he's my least favorite dj @ aria ( techno dj that is ) i still think he deserves his spot as a resident !!

KrinKer

Posted by FunKenLouis on Jan-26-2004 04:18:

ok if someone has to say something about the PEURF SQUAD.....well meet infront of ARIA tonight and well fix that

no....seriously....i dont really like him but i get everyone's opinion and i have to say that as a producer hes something

but...i personaly prefer djs that run....scream...dance...jump...anyways

dont start somekind of argument about it....the guy is a good dj....its all right...but i still dont like him as an entertainer

btw the peurf squad is cool, i just noticed that you guys love djs that go nuts behind the tables, like sven vath, picotto and liebing :P

i dont know how you would react to djs that worry more about the technical part of a set like ben sims, jeff mills etc, who doesnt even have time to have fun, cause they are changing vinyls ever 10 seconds hehe :P

Posted by j@y on Jan-26-2004 10:34:

evryone told me ben sims was really special
if its techno and its bagging, well mixed and great tunes its 100% sure ill love it

the best technical dj i ever saw was chris liebing
hes workin with 3 tables but not changing lp evry 10 seconds

but hey btw i never said that monkeying around was essential but it bring's something special
a dj has to be serious to do a great set and always be on the beat witout trainwrecking

i would not love a dj whos is only entertaining, not mixing well.
mateo is a great dj he has some skills and he is better than at leats 98% of montreal dj's
but i just dont think hes the type of guys who brings a crazy mood in a club
maybe some of you are going crazy when he is on the tables but hey we all love some different stuff

(sorry for my bad english im so fuktup just came back from living )

Hahaha.. I wonder why.. *snicker*

For skill.. I do like Chris, no doubt he is wicked.. but I'd recommend you check out Technasia (Charles Siegling) if you haven't already.
--and I will always go out of my way for Ben Sims.. he has yet to dissapoint.
