Earplugs Reccomendations Needed
Here is my deal...
Recently i got diagnosed with some arthery disection in my neck... yadda yadda, but its being cause by expoisure to loud music, so i'm forced to get earplugs. Now, I am also a DJ and i have couple of gigs coming up where i will be exposed to very high decibels. I know you can get some earplugs medically/proffesionally done for like 150$ where they make ones to fit your ear perfect, but until then i need some substitute... so anyone knows/has experience with cheap earplugs that can be bought at the store and where and how much and your experience. Thanx for your answers
and yes, i did use search button first, but i rather interested with ppl's experiences
Get the Etymotic ER-20 earplugs, they attenuate sound evenly across the entire spectrum so you will hear the same thing, just softer. They only cost like $20 anyway
Try www.etymotic.com
I just posted this before on a similar thread. You can't do much better than $17, which is what Best Buy sells "The Plug" earphones for. Buy them, then do the mod.

The Soft Foam (green) ones are great.
If you're willing to get used to a bit alternative ones, and you are very careful with its cables, then.....
Koss: The Plug
takes care of your earwax too!
So whats the crack with these things ?
Do u wack them in, then your headphones over the top, or plug em into the mixer or what ?
do they stop that ringing sound when u coem outside etc ?

i recently got ones called "knowles" i got them moulded to my ears, they cost me $AUD147.50
now you can also get the better ones the Etymotic made up for your ears, but here they are priced at $AUD275!! but dont forget these are made for your ears but make silicon moulds of your ears....
i wore mine to Armin on friday, alot of peopel complaiend they had bad ringing after the 5 hour set, but i had not one sign of ringing... my ears were perfect!
i put a hole in my ear drum about 4 months ago and talked to my specialist about plugs for when it was fixed. you are right in that they cost about $150 and he said they could get them in about 4 days after you had the mold made - id go straight to your local ear doctor and get some done mate - trust e - losing complete hearing in your ear is the worst thing alive - especially when you are like all of us and have music playing 24/7 - dont risk anything
good luck
god thats a scary thought... do you think it was just over exposure?
Wow this is definitely something not many people think about, myself included. I'm gonna get myself a pair of earplugs, as losing my hearing even partway would suck ass.

hi decibals do casue damage but most of the damage comes from bad sound waves....
i.e if you listen to music (loud) on a crappy system the distored waves are the ones which damage your ears... so if u have a really good system the damage is less....
i read a pvd interview once saying that he carries plugs with him but because he plays on good systems all the time he doesnt allways need them.....
but they are a must... loosing your hearing is the worst thing ever! you carry that with you all your life!
wish I could say that it was something manly like I had the volume up too loud - alas I can't - I was doing the cardinal sin of using a cotton cue tip in my ear and jumped when my wife slammed a door hence the whole thing went through my drum,- not to be recommended if you dont like blood and pain - and i mean PAIN....the freakiest thing alive guys - imagine walking around and it feeling like only one side of your head was working - honestly - it really does feel like you dont have a clue what is going on the damaged side....buy plugs - unless you're a sadist!
Just stick some play-doe in your ear.....i heard it works great
Sorry to hear about your recent condition mate.....i would go insain if i had to wear those things at the club!!!
