Cool Under the Bridge Party

I was reading in DJ Times about how Moby was inspired to write many of the songs on his new album from a party he attended that was thrown under a bridge.

I'm considering throwing one, just cuz the inland empire doesn't have an EDM scene anymore since the shutdown of the Masterdome. My idea is to have it in a storm drain in San Bernardino away from the residential area. A few problems would be where people would park so as not to attract attention. I'm just curious if people have ever heard of anything like this or if they have any suggestions in relation to a party such as this.

I always wondered how parties like these get electricity.

My buddies wanna throw one in a desert, but I was all like dude, where to get the juice.

Cool

You can rent a generator which converts gasoline into electricity.

I've never even heard Moby's album, I don't particularly like his music, but the article was good for an idea.

generators suck. thats what I thought you'd use though.....

noisy gas guzzlin pieces o poo...but hey, if they can power all the equipment, rock on.

anyhow generators for the most part i believe use diesel which is actually pretty affordable as long as you know somebody who has the connection on one. how else do you expect a party under a bridge or in a desert to get powered.
also I think it was Steve Lawler who made storm sewers a big thing in Germany. inside his first Nubreed album in the cover theres a short auto biography about him and how he came up explaining about this.
I think its a pretty reasonable thing, as long as it is a sewer that doesnt reek of shit.

Cool

Well in Southern Cali, it's usually dry and hot most of the year and so rarely fill our storm drain. I talked to a few DJs last night that said they'd be willing to spin, so now I just have to go down there and check it out, before I start spreading the word.

I played at the SB Airport before. That was pretty intersting! If you need more DJ's or any help, let me know!

Posted by justin on Jan-28-2004 18:52:

sounds like you already got it mostly taken care of. if you need anything though let me know too, like if you need H1.5O I've gotta see what this is gonna be like,
BTW if you need more djs from SD area lemme know, Peace

Cool

Thanks DJ Woody and Justin, the main thing I need from you guys is to get the word out, I'd like to have more than 5 people. BUT definately, I'd love to have more DJs, if anyone in SOCAL wants to spin at this thing let me know and I will put you in the lineup. I can't guarantee the thing won't get shutdown in a few hours, but I think it's worth a shot.

sooooooo....

OK!

Cool

Ok the two bridges I checked out last night have huge NO Trespassing signs on the fences all around, so I will have to check other ones. Also I have a friend that said there's an empty campground up around Cal State San Bernardino, I'm gonna check out that place, but I've also heard Sylvan Park across the street from the University of Redlands has had all day parties up until pretty late at night without getting shutdown, that park has little hills that deaden the sound from the residential area around it. Another place I'm considering is Forest Falls up in the San Bernardino mountains. So please be patient with me guys, when I find a decent venue I will definately start a new thread and let everyone know about it since I have a feeling this one is gonna fall to the bottom.

i would love to spin too! i thought of an idea you can rent a bus or get access to one. then setup a rendezvous point about half a mile or a mile away for people to park. then you'll only have one bus parked next to the party. the bad thing is if the cops come everyone will be running for their lives!

Posted by dJohn on Feb-04-2004 22:41:

i'll definetly spin and help out in anyways possible. I live in San Diego, so I'll try and find some spots around here as well.

Cool

Good news guys, I found a potentially great spot. There is a hill next to my house called Little Mountain and there's a dirt road that goes up into the hill that you can miss if you don't drive by there everyday like I do. Anyhoo this dirt road is steep and it goes up to a secluded dirt area, with an awesome view, there are no signs anywhere about trespassing or anything like that, no gate blocking it, people can park in the dirt. Good idea with the bus Raptor, I'll keep that in mind if we have problems with parking seeing as how there's a high school nearby. I will check out this area again during the day to make see how well hidden it is, plus I will look into the price of renting a generator. Thanks for the offer of spinning Raptor and Djohn, I'll definately put you guys in the lineup since you were the first to ask.

check the neighborhood and estimate how the sound will travel. If the land is shaped that it bounces the sound out close to a neighborhood you'll be caught soon. so just think of the lay of the land and where people are when you think of which direction to set the speakers up.

and nice work. it should be a fun event.
