Dunno WHOA! I found this shocking and funny...

I found this quite funny and shocking...

In my town, the local rave kids set up a community a few years ago called Plurplanet where all of us rave kids get together and stuff...we are like a family (that's just to explain to you who we are) now for the shockin stuff...Rabbit in the moon is comin here soon, so i got in the discussion of "when the hell is rank 1 gonna come here" and out of about 60 ravers, i mean oldskool and newskool, i got ALL i mean ALL blank stares, and head scratch's and "huh, who are they" I was like OMG YOUR JOKING RIGHT!? Turns out, they have never heard of rank 1...and most of these kids have been around for YEARS! Their were a few that knew who they were, but like 4 out of 30 isn't very good. I just found that strange and thought i would share because their are a lot of Rank 1 fans here.

Blik,

In most of the US, without mp3s on the internet and online record stores, it would be impossible to know who Tiesto is, let alone Rank 1. Magic 6 + ISOS2 wasn't even stocked in a single store in my city... [Magic 7, finally was]

It takes a lot of effort to get this music...

Posted by QuickStep on Aug-03-2001 15:15:

That about sums of the US music scene. Most of the ravers around here know crap about music, all they know is "local DJ such-and-such is playing, and I'm getting in for free!" They could care less if Tiesto is playing three hours a way in DC, or Paul even. It's sad in Philly, I mean there ARE people that know who's-who's, but the average raver here would say, "Who's Rank 1?"

I make copies of Marco V, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Scott Bond, etc and give them to everyone I know so they get a taste of good music. It's mainly Techno in Philly right, I like techno, just some of the guys that play it aren't that great at it.

Face it, WE are a select group that gets the benefit of knowing how great music can get.

Payce

Even here in Switzerland not all "trance-addicts" know about "rank1". I know quite a few people, those peeps I go to clubs/raves with btw, who couldnt careless about djs all around the globe. I mean, of course they know about some djs like picotto or pvd, but just about everyone know them, so thats not a criteria. They know the national djs very well, quite better than me, but the rest is not interessting for them. they know that mind-x or snowman spins, so go there and good music is guaranteed. they are all about the music and not about names. I mean not everybody is hanging in the internet like us, or go to vinyl-shops. Its just like basketball for example. not everyone who is playing bball knows all about the NBA. but i think they are not less addicted to the music than me.

Posted by mute79 on Aug-03-2001 16:49:

this is because most of the ravers in north america are into jundgle/d'n'b and hhc...

Posted by havok118 on Aug-03-2001 16:57:

Err, maybe they just aren't trance fans...

Have they heard of sandra collins?

Rank 1 was the last track on tranceport 3, not that difficult to know who they are, but I find alot of american kids don't give a rat's ass about producers, they care about the dj's

Posted by cweb on Aug-03-2001 18:05:

I can only speak for myself, those are really "addicted", they just seem to not care about djs and producers as well. they get their stuff on liveset-tapes from a local dj, also a friend of mine, so they dont need to buy or dl their stuff(for that they would to know the artists).

Smiley DJ

I think this is because a part of them aren't interested in trance or progressive, and the other part is trying to be djs only like a fashion.

Here, in Mexico, there is a big school of Hard House ("Underground Construction"?), in fact this was the fisrt genere to be produced here, so maaaany djs are playing it, and they know almost nothing about trance, or they aren't looking for names of producers.

Lately I found that many young people is trying to enter in the scene, because they want to impress everybody else or they just like it like a soft hobbie, but they don't have that special feeling for mixing or they know nothing about the scene. They just want to know how is this and how does it work.

But I think that we can theach them a few, lol....

well if they have not heard of them, very strange, tell them to get on line and download some mp3's, spread your knowledge mate

Posted by -LiquidSounds- on Aug-06-2001 14:46:

I suggested to them a few songs to go download such as Airwave, Many miles to soon, and such is life. i think the main reaon they haven't heard of them is because everyone is a jungle fan here. I don't mind jungle, but jesus, it's not THAT fuckin great. Jungle to me is like Heavy Metal in the rock genre. It's good to jump around to, but after about 15 minutes of it and it's just fuckin annoying.

no way is it techno in philly... at motion you got 2-step (which is why i never go there unless theres someone i REALLY want to see)... at shampoo you have booty house and some other CRAP being played in the main room, and then some bad trance in the groove garden... egypt is q102's bitch so you get top 40 atc crap

Posted by -LiquidSounds- on Aug-06-2001 20:23:

All i know is that down here in Atlanta Georgia...it's ALL jungle and DnB. We don't even HAVE a happy hardcore scene. We have a HHC production company down here called Playground, but they throw parties like once every 3 or 4 months. It's sad. We do have a very good a close scene. We are like a big family, everyone knows everyone. Not like in Cali or something where a Rave is 8000 people. We are the cream of the crop, a dying breed. We need to keep the scene real. Underground 4 life!

Posted by flystyler on Aug-06-2001 20:26:

well it is your job to spread the word
