Chelsea sign 15th Midfielder... its gonna ruin footy!

Ok. Chelski signed Scott Parker today for 10 Million. Thats another midfielder to add to the 14 they already had.. Thats

Lampard
Cole
Geremi
Makelele
Parker
Duff
Gronkjaer
Veron
Petit
Huth
Stanic

Ok thats the only 11 i can come up with at the moment.. is Zenden still there? The article says 15 midfielders now. Looking at some of those names, at least 9, maybe all of them would be guarenteed first team football in the premiership.. it just seems ridiculous that they have moved to chelsea, basically, cos of the money and what theyre earning each week to sit on the bench/play in the reserves. If all the players end up at Chelsea, ok the premiership will look good, and chelsea will improve, but its just gonna make everyone angry at chelsea and i think make footy a bit more boring.. Opinions!

yip, this has been happening in scottish football for years. The old firm always buying up the smaller clubs best players, now look at the state of the football in our country.

Posted by bass drive on Jan-30-2004 22:09:

at the beginning I wanted them to do well because Mutu plays there, but now I hope they do real bad. Damn rich bastards

Posted by sleepydragon on Jan-30-2004 22:28:

chelsea are not gonna win the league by buying up all the best players there having to use a rotation system to keep all the players happy there to inconsistent players r gonna get pissed of eventually

Posted by gatecrasher on Jan-30-2004 23:43:

I think they have a chance at winning the Champions League, lot of European experience in there - but can they beat the mighty Madrid??

i think hes at middlesboro but i think hes only on loan there.

I don't think they will win anything this year.

They are a collection of players, not a team.

Next season they may well win some silverware, if all the players can be kept happy, which is debateable.

I do think that Frank Lampard has been one of the best, if not the best midfielder so far this season, though.

I will try and argue both sides of the coin on this one

Chelsea: They want to build, eventually, a pure british (or majority) team. So far they have some of the best young british players, Terry, Johnston, Lampard and now Parker. They have Duff, who is Irish but still in British Isles, along with Cole (Joe) and Cole (Carlton) who are both massive prospects. Signing Parker is more of a long term investment, as was Cole and Johnston. The reason Ranieri has gone all out for it is because Russian billionnaire is an admiror of Sven, and this, well, it probablyscares the shit out of Ranieri. He is just trying his best to win something to stay on as manager, but in doing this, expectations are only going to be even higher.

Observer: Chelsea are going to become as hated as Man U. As Man U did with Saha, you just leak out that you want to buy him, and let the media get all the information out, then the player gets upset and wants to move, and then bang, a team who posed a threat to your club are gone (not by challenging them for the title, but Fulham proved they could beat Man U when they beat them 3-1 away). Its getting ridiculas that loyalty, which ones was a key feature in football, has now nearly dissapeared, and is even present in the 1st division (Lee Morris, came from Sheffield, Sheffield Utd wanted him, Derby agreed transfer fee, and then he did a U turn to Leicester. ) Yes leicester are in the Premier league, but they're prob getting relegated this year, if he went to Sheff Utd, he's going to his home club, where he grew up, and to a team on he up. Its all about money and unfortunetly, we live in a very materialistic world.

Gone are the days of Matthew LeTissier denying a move to Man U to help out Southampton to beat relegation, and open are the days players signing five year contracts and leavign half a year into that contract.

That was my fear ... Though I really like the team. For some apparent reason ... not only because the owner is Russian

Posted by Lucky Striker on Feb-04-2004 04:08:

Why should people hate Chelsea? The blues actually play a really attractive style of football (unlike Liverpool) and most of their fans are loyal football fans (unlike the posers who support Wank United)

Maybe its jealousy? We were about #100million in debt a a year or so ago and now our fortunes have changed! *thanks to our rich uncle from Russia*

People cant use the old excuse of Chelsea being a team of foreign mercinaries anymore, its time to a new era in football. I'm getting sick of watching the same teams dominate all the time.

I really believe whats happening now at Chelsea is great for football, makes things more exciting! Its good that the guys have to fight for a place, and I'm sure as the season wears on well start suffering from more and more injuries. So most of the guys will have their chance.

Posted by A.J. on Feb-05-2004 01:26:

Hey don't speak about my beloved Liverpool like that!!!!

Posted by Xavier on Feb-05-2004 03:21:

Liverpool may have played boring football for the last few seasons but this season its been more of an attacking approach. I'd admit they resorted back to the hoof at Stamford Bridge last month, but thats because they had a depleted squad.

Posted by Lucky Striker on Feb-05-2004 04:31:

heh,

I've actually got a lot of respect for Liverpool fans, I think theyre one of the few camps who are true football intelectuals (cant think of a better word). I saw a game where Liverpool were soundly beaten, at the end the liverpool fans gave the opossing side a round of applause! Really appreciating good football, no matter where it comes from...

But like Xavier says, you guys played a really defensive style over the last couple of years. And you always beat Chelsea with some freakish last minute goal. I hate that!

Scott Parker = DISGRACEFUL

he sold out bigtime and he will find it extremely difficult to shine in a team like Chelsea.

Posted by Luke Terry on Feb-05-2004 15:16:

Cool

raneiri said out of his first choice 22 he only has 15 world class players, including parker, he wants to make it 22/22 to make it a world class team worthy of everything... or some shite like that.

abramovich said he has to wait till summer to buy the rest tho lol, what a pity

i dont think so.. i think hel play real well cuz hes adapted to the english style of football ... only real problem is wats gonna happen wen veron gets back from surgery... cuz no way is frankie lampard warming any benches this season

Posted by Virus on Feb-08-2004 10:55:

Its madness. So many quality midfielders in one team. I don't understand Parkers reasoning at all. He said that sometimes there comes an oportunity you can't say no to. Oh no? As well as he has been playing he was sure to get other offers from top clubs after the season. Now he's gonna spend most of his time on the bench instead. Also why not stay at Charlton for a while when they're having such an amazing season. Plus he signed a 5 year contract in the summer. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Posted by Turner on Feb-08-2004 11:20:

Well if he wanted to play for england, hes screwed that up. He aint gonna get picked for england when ur not playing regular first team football.

if its alex from santos, hes a defender and went to psv from the money they got from robben.

Posted by mentalbarter on Mar-02-2004 15:57:

robben is fucking amazing
great signing
yes PSV have signed Alex, not chelsea

Posted by tall paul 2 on Mar-02-2004 22:18:

Think Joe Cole is thinking of leaving already though, and to be fair i dont blame him. Competition in that team is so strong, yet over the past couple of weeks Ranieri has kept to almost the same team. Im sure there will be departures in the summer from players that signed last year....

Posted by Kongo_kim on Mar-04-2004 15:43:

this alex dude was bought by Roman Abramovich to PSV. Chelsea and PSV has some co-operation thing. The deal is that Alex plays two years in holland to get an citizenship and goes to Chelsea

Posted by gatecrasher on Mar-08-2004 23:42:

They must need two planes to get to European games in the Champions League
